Video sharing how to store small stencils and masks so that you can easily find what you need!

The small stencils and masks are fun to play with but storing them has been a challenge for me, until now!  I could hang them all up on little hooks, but I just don’t.  It feels too much like cleaning to me so my masks would just sit in a pile on the counter.

Then I realized that I could make a Rolodex of sorts for these. To be able to put them away easily and find the ones I need quickly- a dream come true!

All that I required was a hardcover book.  Any size.  It took me about 5 minutes or so to fold the book so that it would hold all of my masks and have plenty of room for more!

Not only is this a fast and practical way to store these, but more importantly, it’s fun to use!

Want to know how I store my larger stencils?  The Tale of Goldilocks and Her Stencil Storage explains why I love those  J hooks so much! Get them from Uline or in smaller quantities here.

In a blog post and video showing my studio…including why I organize the way I do…you can a look at a larger spinner that I moved up to for storing my stencils later…sadly, the company that made the large spinner rack is no longer in business.

Here are some of the masks from the video, all at StencilGirl Products.

How to use Tim Holtz tissue wrap, a rubber stamp with paint, and stencils in an art journal for this week's Let's Play video! Let's Play, a link party where you can be inspired and be inspiring!

Once I started looking around my studio for neglected supplies, I found there are plenty of them.  The good news is that it gives me plenty of ways to let myself play! For this week’s Let’s Play link party, I’m using Tim Holtz’s Tissue Wrap.

How does showing some love to neglected supplies help me play?  It’s been so long since I’ve used these that they are like new to me.  All the excitement of when I first played with them is back!

New to Let’s Play?  It’s all about how to let go and embrace the fun of artful play.  Each Tuesday, there’s a new link party where I’m sharing my play and you can link up to share your play.  And yes, it can be any creative play!  Plus there’s a monthly $50 gift certificate giveaway!

Another big part of play for me is not following a plan.  Even if I think I have a plan, I know it won’t really happen that way.  For example, the tissue wrap.  It was supposed to be one big sheet of it on my page according to my plan.  But once I had run it through the Xryon Creative Station to turn it into a sticker, I saw lots of little stickers in it.  So I just cut it up!

In the video, you’ll also see another, not as planned bit of play with an old rubber stamp.  It was an Oops…an Outstanding Opportunity Presenting Suddenly…but that led me to something even better with that stamp!

Video tutorial sharing how to use masks and stencils to make a colorful art journal page by Carolyn DubeWhat inspires me to make a stencil? It can be anything.  In fact, I never know what will spark the muse until it happens.  What sparked my latest designs at StencilGirl Products?  Dancers!

Learning to Dance stencil by Carolyn Dube for StencilGirl Products

After watching a classical ballet performance, I was struck by all the effort, the hard work, and the commitment that goes in to being a dancer- ballet or any other kind for that matter.  It got me thinking about how that applies to life too.  You have to commit to making your life the life you want. It takes effort, it takes work, but it is also full of fun and joy and incredible moments.

TThe Dance of This Life stencil and 6 masks by Carolyn Dube for StencilGirl Productshe Dance of this Life stencil comes with the 6 masks of the dancers.  There are some real perks to having masks of those figures and in the video I share how they helped me “cheat” when building this art journal page!

Watch How to use masks and stencils in an art journal page on YouTube.

One of the dancers I watched stumbled.  She missed a step but she picked herself right up and embraced the rest of her dance with her head held high.  I had more respect for her because of her stumble, not less.  She showed what she was made of when she had the courage to get up and keep going after a very public Oops.  That’s life. It isn’t perfect but it is always worth the effort.

A great big thank you to the entire StencilGirl Products team for making these stencils a reality!  It is an honor and a joy to work with a family run business!

Here are the supplies I used. Some of these links are affiliate links which means I get a small percentage. It doesn’t cost you anything extra and you are helping me keep this blog and my videos ad free! Thank you- I don’t like ads any more than you do!
