It's so much easier for me to make patterned papers when I start with ones I made while Gelli printing!- made a video of the whole thing too!

What can you do with the papers you make Gelli® printing?  You can build on the colors and lines already there with a stencil to create your own custom artful patterned papers.  Something strange has been happening to me…I have been having fun with subtle coloring. Not sure what is happening, but when the muse talks I have learned to listen!

Want to win all 3 of my newest stencils?  I’ve got a giveaway happening and you can find all the details (and how to get a total of 6 chances to win) here.

It's so much easier for me to make patterned papers when I start with ones I made while Gelli printing!

Here’s the print that spoke to me because of all the lines of color.

You can see how I made this paper in my What’s the best paint for the Gelli Plate. (It’s near the end of the video.)

Using white paint, I stenciled each of the patterns on  Connected Eyes Layer Me and Iron Grate Layer Me stencils on the paper.  One of the reasons I designed the Layer Me stencils is I wanted patterns that coordinated and were capable of creating lots of different looks.

I've created a video showing how I used Gelli® printing as a starting point to create stenciled papers

The next layer of color came by putting the coordinating pattern from the Layer Me stencil on top which adds subtle depth.  Enjoy a little chuckle in the video as I forgot how to follow my own plan.

Finished it off with some scribble journaling with a fine liner.  Where will I go with this paper next?  Might use it in a collage, in an art journal, but for right now I am happy simply enjoying looking at it.

Heart Journal Magazine

I’m very excited about the latest issue of heART Journal Magazine for 3 reasons.  First reason: White space.  I made something with lots of white space!  So much white space I think I used my entire quota of it for the next six months.  Video of the whole page and an interview too.

Second reason:  it’s a free issue of heART Journal Magazine!  Carla Devine was so kind to offer a free issue to all of you, my blog friends! Which issue?  This one!   There are directions how to redeem this at the bottom of this post – for a tablet or a pdf version!  But Carla didn’t stop there!

Third reason: she also gave me a 1 year subscription to give away to one lucky commenter!  So, leave a comment telling me what you like to read about in art magazines to be entered!  Random.org will pick the winner at midnight EST on July 21st.  Thanks to all who entered! The giveaway is now closed. Winner announced here.

Using leftover paints to play step by step tutorial by Carolyn Dube

I just needed to use up my leftover paint so I didn’t commit the crime of wasting color.  That was my excuse to let loose and just play with the goal of using it all up.

It’s a very freeing goal because there is nothing in there about perfection.  Nothing in there about what it MUST be.  As long as I use it up, I meet my goal.  That’s a no pressure way to play, pure freedom!

Random smears of color with the goal of using it up. No pressure here since it is leftover paint and a junk mail envelope. Can you tell I didn’t want any pressure?

No need to wait for paint to dry…I just grabbed a spray ink and my Iron Grate stencil.  Can’t waste the ink, so I flipped it over…This stencil is part of my new Layer Me collection but just because it can be layered doesn’t mean it has to be layered!  Both patterns on the stencil are great all by themselves too!

It was such fun I did it again with another stencil, Connected Eyes!

A little touch of white…about as close to white space I can do today with the Wall of Words stencil.

Some more smears of paint and a little scribble journaling with a fine liner and white ink and it feels complete.  So what will I do with this envelope?  No idea.  It might be mailed.  It might become a folder for non-art paperwork.  Who knows how I will use it!
