Turning Around an I Can’t Kind of a Day

How I use art play to help me chase away stress in this quick video!

50 things to do.  Time to only do 20 and the energy to do 3.  Ever have a day like that?

It was the kind of day where I hear I can’t a lot in my head thanks to a very unhelpful voice.    Hearing I can’t is my signal to me that I need some art play.  I have learned that if I take a few minutes to recharge with a bit of art play, I am far better equipped to deal with the daunting to-do list.

What were some of today’s I can’ts?

  • I can’t spare the time.
  • I can’t because I don’t have the best supplies for this.
  • I can’t because it will look terrible (various words of profanity also work well here but I’ll be lady like about it).

How did I deal with it? Artful play.  Check out the video where I share going from I can’t to I can.

Here are the supplies I used. Some of these links are affiliate links which means I get a small percentage. It doesn’t cost you anything extra and you are helping me keep this blog and my videos ad free! Thank you- I don’t like ads any more than you do!

Carolyn, you are so right!!! Sometimes art will break down walls and lower my blood pressure when nothing else will!! I am a writer for my “day” job. I keep gesso, a journal and a paint brush nearby because sometimes even just spreading gesso all over a page to prepare it for later is all I need to get out of a creative slump!! (Normally, it doesn’t stop there, but don’t tell anyone!!) 🙂 Thanks for this honest, inspiring post!! xx

Thanks for taking me along on you outing into the world of playing with color once again. I may not be able to wait until January to get started on my own colorful journey.

I totally know the feeling, I first need to work my list of to do’s and then I’m allowed some play time, usually by then I’m beaten and nothing creative happens anymore, next day you’re even more annoyed. i should try your tip of just letting go and be creative and afterwards you’ll be way more effective.

Thank you for these all you do Carolyn. I love all your helpful, fun videos. It’s kind that you share of yourself with the world. If I could only master the computer, I would do the same. Thankful ( and a bit envious) for peeps like you who can access both sides of their brain.
