Let’s Play with Tissue Wrap in an Art Journal

How to use Tim Holtz tissue wrap, a rubber stamp with paint, and stencils in an art journal for this week's Let's Play video! Let's Play, a link party where you can be inspired and be inspiring!

Once I started looking around my studio for neglected supplies, I found there are plenty of them.  The good news is that it gives me plenty of ways to let myself play! For this week’s Let’s Play link party, I’m using Tim Holtz’s Tissue Wrap.

How does showing some love to neglected supplies help me play?  It’s been so long since I’ve used these that they are like new to me.  All the excitement of when I first played with them is back!

New to Let’s Play?  It’s all about how to let go and embrace the fun of artful play.  Each Tuesday, there’s a new link party where I’m sharing my play and you can link up to share your play.  And yes, it can be any creative play!  Plus there’s a monthly $50 gift certificate giveaway!

Another big part of play for me is not following a plan.  Even if I think I have a plan, I know it won’t really happen that way.  For example, the tissue wrap.  It was supposed to be one big sheet of it on my page according to my plan.  But once I had run it through the Xryon Creative Station to turn it into a sticker, I saw lots of little stickers in it.  So I just cut it up!

In the video, you’ll also see another, not as planned bit of play with an old rubber stamp.  It was an Oops…an Outstanding Opportunity Presenting Suddenly…but that led me to something even better with that stamp!

OH, I love your use of tissue on your project! I have been piling up bits of patterned tissue paper to use for some time and really need to pull it out to play. I always love the texture it adds to a project.

OMG I love it!!!! Thanks so much for another use for my tissue paper. I get so many ideas from watching and using my supplies that have been sitting dormant.

Love how the print is still visible under that layers of paint. I wish there were more variety of this kind of tissue wrap on the market. It would save us having to buy all those expensive stamps!

I think it is pretty funny that I started my whole “homemade tissue paper” project this weekend well before you posted this project! Anyway, I guess I participated well this week and now everyone interested has some more info on how to make their own decorated tissue if they wish. I guess I should add that I used Memories ink to stamp with–an ink pad that is NOT water soluble. 🙂 Thanks for your creative posts, Carolyn. I really enjoy coming to your blog and reading all that you have to offer!

  • Suzanne Gehring February 27, 2016, 7:43 pm

I appreciate everyone sharing their artwork. Their creativity inspires me to “play”!

  • Allyson K February 28, 2016, 5:57 pm

Your comments and you always are so inspiring and make me so happy. I suffer from depression and my art is a way of brightening the dark days of my life and you are a part of making my days happier. I love that you show how Oops! can turn into beautiful works of art just as much as intentional art. I also really like how you can start one way (like with your tissue project) and end up with something totally different in the end. I love your use of Dylusions paints. Thanks for letting us follow along. Cheers, Allyson

Carolyn, I love your colourful, cheerful blog and inspirational videos with “oopses” aplenty! I’m also loving the creativity shown by all the other Let’s Play February participants…it’s really difficult to choose just one to comment upon. I have to say, though, that I was totally inspired by Marjie Kemper’s Inchies – I’m going to give this a go! And I love butterfliecrafter’s ‘spread love, not war’ piece. The colours are gorgeous and the journalling elements work so well together (how impressive is that home-made mosque stencil?). The doodling adds the perfect finishing touch.
Looking forward to the next play session. x
