July’s Colorful Gelli Print Party

Video tutorial for A Colorful Gelli Print Party with Carolyn Dube Using a StencilGirl Stencil Join me for a Colorful Gelli Print Party!

Welcome to July’s Colorful Gelli Print Party!  At long last it is getting hot here, just like summer should.  In honor of that beautiful ball of golden happiness I’m playing with hot colors making a page full of my own little Suns!

You can watch the video on YouTube here.

You can do a messy layer of gesso, a neat and tidy and smooth layer of gesso, or something in between but you need a layer of gesso.  The gesso layer is very very very, did I mention very, important for this technique!  I used a heavy watercolor paper because that is what was around.  I love the extra texture it added. I used a Catalyst blade (size 30 #6) to spread on the gesso.

I’m using the 12×14 size Gelli Plate today but this will work with any size plate.Video tutorial for A Colorful Gelli Print Party with Carolyn Dube Using a StencilGirl Stencil

Both of these prints were made with the same stencil, Random Circles by Mary Beth Shaw at StencilGirl Products.  One of the things I love about using stencils with the Gelli Plate is that you can get so many different looks with the same supplies. One print has me thinking about the hot summer sun and the other bubbles surrounded by journaling.

What fun! I played with bit of gesso and my gelli plate on a 12×12 architectural tile today. The process needs some fine tuning, but I like the idea–since I have a whole box of the tiles!!

Hi Carolyn. Loved your video. The many layers gave the print so much depth. I’ve linked up my post from yesterday and hope to add more links throughout July :).

I LOVE your blog & YouTube channel! Decided to resurrect my old blog just for this party! My prints aren’t colorful (yet), still getting the hang of the whole process.

I just love the party 🙂 I do keep forgetting that you can add more than one link for the month DOH! I have to watch the video cause I just LOVE those colours and you always inspire. But first, I need to hop to a few other links – before the electrician comes back and I have to shut down my Mac!

    🙂
    Cheers

Your project caught my eye on MIM…..Being a Leo starsign, I love hot colours and I use them quite a lot. I haven’t got a gelli-plate, but I use lots of ‘hot’ inks and Pan Pastels. xx

I just posted a link to a gelli-printing session with my mother and sister(it is a long blog post about a family weekend at the cottage, not just about gelli printing). We had lots of fun and got some nice prints. We all have decided it was addicting and had to force ourselves to stop so we could make dinner!

  • Suzanne July 18, 2013, 5:57 am

Thank you so much for hosting this party, Carolyn! It’s so much fun and I wish I could join in much more often. Suzanne x

Have slowed down with my 101 Gelli Prints Projectthis month. Partly due to the weather being too hot for me to paint and partly cuz I got a bit bored 🙂 I’m up to 68 completed and a number to add more layers to so I’m going to keep going. Albeit more slowly than I had originally thought.

Loving the inspiration of seeing the other posts here.

  • Molly Freibott July 26, 2013, 1:56 pm
