Artsy Fartsy Play with a Stencil

Video tutorial using Dylusions spray inks and a stencil by Carolyn Dube

A bit of Dylusions spray inks and a stencil, Use Your Words, brought a touch color to my art journal.  In the video, you’ll see how I used the back of the stencil to get these words onto my page.  One of the great things about Dylusions is how it reacts to water and did I ever use that to my advantage to get the color on this page!

This isn’t just any old art journal page…it’s an Artsy Fartsy art journal page!  I’m playing with Maria McGuire and my stencil, Use Your Words.  What’s Artsy Fartsy?  It’s a way that Maria and I have some creative time together even though we live miles and miles apart.  She’s been secretly using the stencil too and I have no idea what she’s made as I write this post.  I don’t get to see or hear about what she’s making until it goes live on her blog.  As soon as I publish this I am off to see what she made here.

You can watch Artsy Fartsy art journal play with spray ink and a stencil on YouTube here.

I love that I got to see the process…even it is in video 🙂 There is special meaning in your page too! Reverse stenciling….so in love with it! Why the heck do we wait so long between these???!! This would make the perfect print for a greeting card!

    Carolyn,
I so enjoy watching your process, and the end results are almost always wonderful. You inspire me to keep pushing a project past that point where I think “okay, that’s good enough. Let me stop now before I ruin it.” Thanks for sharing.

This gives me an idea to do that same technique with the stencil to make “painting pages” for my 4 year old granddaughter. She would love to paint with water making great background pages for me to bind into a book for her. Thanks so much for your inspiration!!!!!

Carolyn, this is awesome! I loved watching your process and the results are fabulous! I know what you mean about hoarding those little elements for that perfect project…I can so relate!

I love this – the butterflies and words seem oddly appropriate to me right now (even though they are not Christmas-y!). I also really liked your ATC Blocks. I’ve seen something similar in wood. Chunky ATC’s I think they were called, and I was definitely drawn to them.

Super technique using Dylusions with a paintbrush… and that stencil is just fantastic with all the different sized words. Love it!
