Aegeria

The Lifebook  course is fantastic.  This week was definitely something new for me as faces are not my strength, but I am getting more comfortable with them.

My muse finally chose to reveal a name to me!  Aegeria.  An ancient goddess of healing, springs, sacred knowledge, and inspiration.  I had already had a water theme with the background color & seashell stamps.  I love that Aegeria had lots to do with Rome – one of my favorite cities. The best part, Aegeria was a wonderful character on Stargate.  My sci fi nerdiness comes out…

As I went through this process I was surprised how she looked abused, beaten, and battered during certain stages.  The layers did soften as more layers were added. The process made sense logically, but I was skeptical until I tried it myself.

Splattered and stamped background.

Hair colored and words redrawn in black ink.

Glittered the words in the hair.

Added the die cut label and used India ink to write her name.

The name label is on the back  so that it rests upon her head when closed. This side isn’t finished, but it’s as finished as it will be for now.

I see you are a lover of art journals. One thing I can’t do is draw, so I am in awe of anyone who can. I came from Creative Every Day and really enjoyed this post.

Carolyn, you did a great job. I am a bit scared of faces.Love seeing your process. I have been questioning my decision not to do Life Book…would i be totally behind if I joined now?

WOW. I absolutely loved watching her rise up out of the page. She’s simply gorgeous. Those eyes are fantastic!!

OMG! This is beautiful. I love seeing her slowly emerge from her “battered” stage, as you put it, (and don’t we all batter our Muse as much as she batters us and we try to force her to reveal new ideas and approaches to us and she tries to push in directions we fear?). Give her a face and name creates a more real relationship that I’m sure will help you. Thanks so much for sharing your progression on this.

Love this page Carolyn – especially when one side folds over, creates a mystique.

The background texture is so subtle and nice and I am loving the three dimensionality of the card, the way the name card completes it. Totally beautiful!

I’ve never done faces. Nice job. Now I want to google her namesake. 🙂

I signed up for life book as well and happily watched the first class and made my page and all that and then that was it… still sitting on my desk waiting for me to get to it, so you have inspired me to get going on it… like you faces aren’t my favourite thing ,but sure I just need to jump in and get on with it and fingers crossed it will turn out as well as this…xx

She is wonderful. I love the way you put the words in her hair. Stargate SG1 was my absolute favorite show when it was on, but I don’t remember Aegeria. Or was she on Stargate Altantis? I didn’t watch that one much. I have an awful memory these days.
