What’s Your Word for 2017

How I Pick My Word for the year by Carolyn Dube

It’s the start of a new year, so that means plenty of introspection on what I want to make a priority in 2017.  I would love to make everything a priority and do it all.  But there is a reality that there are only 24 hours in a day so picking a word, or two, can help guide my choices throughout the year.

The first thing I did was make a list of possible words.  And  it was almost 100 words long.  Too big of a pile to even dream of narrowing down so I turned to my art and art journals.  I flipped through the pages and found some words used over and over or ones that held particularly strong meaning. That list of 21 words is above.

I’ve spent about a week narrowing the list down, and it’s down to 2.  Conventional wisdom holds that one word is picked but I am feeling that I need two this year. Which two will guide me this year?  Dare and Freedom.

What about you? What’s your word, or two, for the year?

I have joined this “movement” this year and chosen a word for me. It is “create” because I could see all the different ways I could use it. For example create a better healthy life style, create a new garden, create changes in my home décor and of course create art. Just a few things there are liots more that will arise along the way. I am excited to have this word for 2017.

My word for the year is FREE. I will allow this awesome word to guide me every step of the way. To be free to be me. To be free to play. To be free to create.
You can see where I am going with this.
Thanks as always for a peak into your world
    Happy New Year
    Jeanette

Interesting! I also chose “Freedom” for this year. I want to be free to do what I want (up to a point), and not feel constrained to do “the right thing” all the time. I want to be able to craft and not feel guilty about not doing the dusting or letting the dishes go for an hour. . . . I had thought that it was not exactly “word of the year” worthy — but I see you chose it too! So maybe . . . it does really reflect how I feel.

Mine is adversity! Ok, so I will be the first one to admit that “adversity” is a strange word to pick, not the normal uplifting vibe that most want for their word, but for me it fits. I’m a kind of a glass half full kinda gal who doesn’t try to let myself get down in the dumps when faced with a challenge or a “bump in the road”…sure, adversity, it happens to all of us but it’s how we react to those circumstances that controls who we are.
