The Children Have A Little Color

The kids now have a bit of color – more like a rainbow exploded on them…This paper was just cheap cardstock for the printer from the office store.  Not art paper.  I used watercolors and watercolor crayons.  NO PILLING.  SMOOTH.  I have been working on a 3/4 face for the Lifebook class.  I used watercolor paper.  I spent longer than I want to admit sketching the face and actually liked the results!

Then I brought out the watercolor crayons. After the first color was put down it starting pilling up.  Tam warned us about that – I didn’t think this was super cheap stuff – apparently it was.  I didn’t want to give up on it – I used a heat gun to dry between colors.  I went very carefully.  The colors were NOT moving around the way they should have.   I finally came to my senses – I need to buy high quality watercolor paper for really watercolor work.  My cheap stuff will be for collage, not watercolor!   Excuse to go shopping.

First off–the kids faces are fabulous–LOVE the color addition! Very interesting the watercolor worked so good on that paper. I would color copy and shrink them and put them on a Journal page 🙂 Your Life Book page is wonderful!!! I know what you mean about the pilling. I started to see this and started adding in acrylics to the watercolor and it started moving, hence why my hair is all acrylics too. I don’t have good luck with watercolor. I went and bought Neocolor Watercolor crayons last night–we will see. I did use good watercolor paper….Can’t wait to see your final project 🙂

I quite like the texture you have created here. But you don’t always want the paper to do its own thing. Good quality watercolour paper is probably the best, as you say!
    Nice rainbow colours!

I actually think the texture on the second one is kind of cool. Maybe you should do the whole face like that. The colors on the first one are awesome!!!

I have 5 boys and 4 out of the 5 of them have brown hair, my husband and I both have brown hair as well, my 22 month old however has blonde hair. Blonde hair does run in the family both sides, it’s just so odd how my little boy is the only one out of our 5 boys that has blonde hair.
Does anyone else have one then 2 children and one of them has a totally different hair color then the rest, even yourself and your husband? Just wondering

I love your 3/4 face, in spite of the pilling! Very nice. As for the kids…I think you need to check their diet. J/K–love the rainbow explosion 🙂
