I owe so much of who I am to my mother. Even though breast cancer took her from me long ago her impact, the lessons she taught me, her voice (which I hear in my head too often), her zest for life continue to be with me. As I celebrate my artist tape article in the March/April issue of Somerset Studio, I wanted to let her know how much I appreciate all she did for me.
I used a photo of her as a child with a frame of artist tape. The frame is also great for your remnant pieces of tape. Peerless watercolors glide on like butter when using a photo. This is a modern glossy photo- I tend to use copies of older photos so I don’t feel “bad” if I “ruin” it. As you can see, I still seem addicted to color- the more the merrier!
This is a lovely creation and your mom would have adored it. Also, I really enjoyed watching your video and seeing all your steps. If I have not already said so, lots of congratulations on your Somerset Studio article.

Beautiful! I haven’t used artist tape, and had no idea that you could paint over it. This sounds like fun. Thanks for sharing the videos and fun ideas.
Very nice. I enjoy all of the collage elements and the layering in this piece. It’s hard missing your Mom and I feel for you. Today is my mother’s birthday. Unfortunately she departed suddenly at just 53.

Those strips you color from are interesting. Did you make them or buy them?
The strips are Peerless Watercolors. They come in squares and I cut off just a small strip so I can have lots on 1 page and they last forever. They behave slightly differently than traditional watercolors on photos and glossy surfaces- don’t know why but they do. I like to take them on trips because they travel so easily compared to wet watercolors and they can just sit in the back of a journal.
