Show the World Your Magic

Buckle up because the Stencil Test Drive is here!  The Hebrew Calligraphy with Hamsa Stencil is first up!

This is just the first of many wonderful blog hops between now and June celebrating Jessica’s stencils at Stencil Girl Products.  Not only do they have fabulous stencils they also ship quickly!

Be sure to stop by Jessica’s blogMichelle Rydell’s blog, and Judy Shea’s blog to see how this stencil inspired them!  You can join in and win one of Jessica’s stencil!  The details and linky party are here!

A background that came about from gessoing and painting over a piece that was in need of reworking.

Wood icing used with Jessica’s Hebrew Calligraphy with Hamsa Stencil.

Once the wood icing had dried I put the stencil back on top so that the paint only went where I wanted it to go in the next step.

Using a dry brush I painted the top of the wood icing a deep blue.

I smeared paint on with my fingers.

After the last layer dried, I smeared another layer of paint.

Another touch or two of paint.  Once it was dry, I brayered on a thin layer of white paint to pop the design.

The wood icing created lots of places and spaces for the paint and color to pile up.

I was so in love with this stage that there is another piece just like this one drying in my studio.  I want one to cut up and make ATC backgrounds for another project!

I thought this piece was all finished until I read the quote.  Book paper, paint, and glitter and now I think it really is finished…

Carolyn, what an awesome piece you’ve created with the Hebrew calligraphy stencil! I have no idea what wood icing is and will certainly be looking that up. My question would be: how do you clean up the stencil for the next time you want to use it? Does the wood icing wash off easily?

  • JKW ,
