Happy Holidays!  Hard to believe it is here already!  On Christmas morning, I am unwrapping a jumbo Gelli Plate.  I’ve seen its shiny red wrapping.  I feel like a I am 5 years old again thinking about the day!

That gift is what sparked A Colorful Gelli Print Party that begins on January 1st.  Hope you will stop by and join in the link party!   You can grab the blog button over on the sidebar on the right!

Here’s today’s art journal play:  I randomly stamped various Christmas stamps.  Creamy dreamy Pan Pastels gave me bright and vibrant colors!  I sealed them with acrylic gloss medium.

Journaling about Christmas and my wishes for the world.

Spray inks using Jessica Sporn’s Medieval Leaves stencil.

A coat of gesso over the spray inked areas.

Using a map stencil from Artist Cellar I added the path I envisioned Santa taking.

Cathedral window die cuts from Memory Box painted black.  I hadn’t planned on using black but plans definitely change when I am arting.  Does that happen to you too?

Using a Tim Holtz alphabet die I cut out the words that summed up what I would love for Santa to bring to the world: hope, love, kindness, and peace- and Gelli plates for everyone!

Have a wonderful holiday season! Linking up with Anything But a Card, Mandarin Orange Monday, Creative Every Day, and Inspire Me Monday.

It’s time for another great ride on the Stencil Test Drive!

Jessica Sporn has brought us another stencil that is full of possibilities- the Medieval leaves stencil!  Be sure to drive over and check out all the great posts for this test drive from Ronda Palazzari, Maria McGuire, Corrine Gilman of Sparkle Day Studio, and of course, Jessica Sporn!

Below is a  video of the making of the background paper and how the layers of color and pattern built up using Jessica’s wonderful stencil!

I made so many different papers with this stencil as I played and played.  Greens and purples below were such a wonderful surprise! All I was expecting was blue and this is the gift I found because I didn’t clean spray inks off of my stencil very well!

Since I used this stencil over and over with paint I would pat off the excess in a journal.  I love how this turned out!

Now back to our regularly scheduled art journal page!

In the shapes I saw a figure so out came a black pen!  She’s not my usual style but there she was so I had to draw her.

Who doesn’t need purple hair with pink highlights?

She reminded me how much fun it is to be curious, especially since I had spent the afternoon just playing and exploring with Jessica’s Medieval leaves stencil!

Be sure to drive over and check out all the great posts for this test drive from  Ronda Palazzari, Maria McGuire, Corrine Gilman of Sparkle Day Studio, and of course, Jessica Sporn!  Want more creativity?  Check out Paint Party Friday and Creative Every Day!

I have so much fun when I art with friends, in person or on the net.  That is how Artsy Fartsy Friendly Fun got started!  While working on this week’s Artsy Fartsy challenge I was struck by how much fun I was having with my Gelli Plate.  I have heard from little elves that a few people might be getting one from the jolly man in a red suit so why not plan a time to play?  Come and join me for a play day or two at my Colorful Gelli Print Party!

Everyone is welcome!  The party begins Jan. 1st so we can kick off 2013 with lots of color and creativity!  Jan. 1st through Jan. 7th, each day I will have a new Gelli plate post!  The best part will be a link party so we can all see what each other is making with their Gelli Plates! All Gelli creations are welcome!

Now, on to the art that was sparked by the Gelli plate!   Every Artsy Fartsy has 3 elements that must be incorporated some how.  This time it was a Santa, a non-traditional color scheme, and tissue paper.  As soon as I get this posted, I am off to see how Maria McGuire used these same 3 things!

This ghost print from my Gelli plate jumped out of the drawer and onto my counter.  Okay, it grabbed my eye and I put it on the counter.

I stamped a variety of Santas on white tissue paper. Once I had the ones I liked out came the gel medium.

Since I had to be non-traditional colors I went with lime green to make the bubbles pop (pun intended).  I used Glossy Acccents to give the bubbles a shine which my camera had a hard time capturing perhaps as payback for my terrible pun…

A few water soluble crayon scribbles with quick circles of glitter glue.

I added a bit of writing.  I would love it if Santa would bring peace with him this year.  There is too much violence and pain for so many families.  May all those touched by the violence heal and find peace.
