Nathalie Kalbach is the guest artist for the last Fall Fearless and Fly!   Her work is inspiring!  I have had an absolute blast co-hosting this with Jessica Sporn!  Thank you to every person who has participated from guest artists to artists who linked up to the people who stopped by to taken in all the creativity! (Shhh…The Fall Fearless link will work on Monday- I’m just getting this up a bit early.)

Headline prompt:  Radical to Mundane and to Radical Again:  What once seemed new that now feels old and boring?  How can you see it as new again?  How do you “jump charge” creativity when you’re feeling stuck?

How perfect that I was stuck trying to figure out what to create for a post about getting unstuck!  So  I did what I do when I am stuck, called AAA.  Not the auto club that tows cars but my artistic AAAAnything Anywhere is Acceptable.  That means I just need to grab something and whatever I do is acceptable and free of judgement to get myself unstuck.

I have had Pan Pastels on my mind since the giveaway at Fall Fearless and Fly this week is $50 from Pan Pastel.  But then what?  My big ledger journal.  What else?  An egg stencil by Tracie Lyn Huskamp.  Now I had enough to get me started.

AAA to the rescue!  I had begun to hatch an idea with Pan Pastels and Tracie’s stencil!

One idea leads me to another and before I know it I am out of the muck and rolling right along!  I love love love to use my Versamark watermark stamp pad with Pan Pastels.

As I made decisions while creating this art journal page I made choices that could either allow my muse to inspire me or I could become anxious.  Not a lot of inspiration in anxiety for me.

Whenever I feel that anxiety, I have to consciously decide to trust my muse for better or worse…Here I trusted in my handwriting (with the help of a Stabilo pencil) even thought I don’t like my handwriting…

The many Gelli Plate prints I have from A Colorful Gelli Print Party are all over my studio so it is not surprising that some ended up in my journal.

Thanks to AAA (Anything Anywhere is Acceptable) I was able to hatch some of my ideas because they were protected from criticism and nurtured as I experimented.

Oops!

Oops- how to trust the mistakes step by step at aColorfulJourney.com Oops has become my favorite word!   As I create I make all sorts of mistakes but I don’t like how harsh “mistake” sounds so I call them “oops”.  A silly word that I can’t take too seriously because really, are any of my art mistakes something to worry about?  NO!  Does worrying about them help me in any way?  NO!

Here’s a look inside my process as I created this tag.

I had this die cut window that I thought fit perfectly.   I wanted contrast, hence the orange.  But after looking at it I decided that was an oops.  I embrace my Oops because they are often gifts that have yet to reveal themselves.

I painted it green.  Oops.  Not right.  I put oil pastels on the edges.  Oops.  Not right.  I used a white oil pastel on the center and attached it with foam squares to add dimension.  All those oops led me to here and I like it here.

The butterflies were punched but not used in another project.  Oops.  I had the punching scrap on my counter.  Glad I made that oops before or I wouldn’t have had the butterfly leftover now.  Oops, the glue didn’t adhere it all the way.   This oops will be a very welcome gift later…

A bit of typed text.  Oops, ran out of space for the punctuation mark.

I wanted contrast so I pulled out a bottle of ink.  Oops.  A little too much contrast.

I blotted the wet ink off.  That oops led me to an ahhhh.

Oops, I wish I had known I wanted to color the butterflies blue before I glued the paper down.  Oh, wait, it was an oops glue job so the paintbrush could get under the edges easily.

Oops, I should have thought about where I was going to put my journaling…scratching it into the oil pastels worked wonderfully!

A Colorful Gelli Print Party at aColorfulJourney.com with Carolyn Dube Join me for a Colorful Gelli Print Party!

This week has flown by!  Can’t believe this is the last day of the party! Thank you to every party goer for helping me kick off 2013!  It is going to be an amazing year full of color and creativity!   In all the excitement I had neglected my rubber stamps so I brought them to the party today to play with my Gelli Plate!

When I want the rubber stamp to pull up lots of paint then I stamp it off each time.  This gives me 2 for the price of 1!  I get the Gelli print and another layer on an art journal page.

I loved how this one looked so much I had to set it aside just as it was.  The Gelli Plate is also a great way to create a “paint pad” (instead of an ink pad)  to stamp with and there is no waste since the “paint pad” gets cleaned off by making a Gelli print!

This is now a great base layer for a journal page.  Much of it will be covered up but the lines and layers peeking through will add rich layers to whatever this journal page becomes.

The index cards I printed on – changing the size of the paper changes the feeling completely for me.

Thank you to everyone who has come to party!  There is still time to link up. The linky will be open for almost another week!

  • Link up your Gelli Plate blog posts, flickr page, YouTube videos – it is all welcome!  New posts or recent posts are welcome!
  • Add a link back to the party so others can join us too!
  • Leave a comment on at least 2 other links from the party.  You know how wonderful kind comments encourage us creative types!
  • Participate as many times as you want- just be sure it relates to the Gelli Plate.  If you notice your link deleted it is because it didn’t have a thing to do with the Gelli plate and that is what we’re celebrating here!
