Step by step art journal page by Carolyn Dube using PanPastels, Dina Wakley stamp, and a vintage bingo card.

Sifting through a drawer I bumped into my bingo cards. My precious, must save, can’t bear to use, bingo cards.  The words on 1 really caught my attention- 12 different ways to win on every card. Just like life, there are always lots of ways to “win”.

My old ledger colored randomly from using the brayer while Gelli printing.

One of my latest favorite ways to stamp- with PanPastels.  I stamp in a clear embossing ink then gently brush the PanPastels over the top. It is a great way to mix subtle bits of colors together.

I typed on a Gelli print.  Not a fancy Gelli print but just a 1 color, solid print – no stencils no pattern- but it does have subtle little things like parts with just a bit less paint.  So nice to be able to print my own coordinating papers!

The precious bingo card I had been hoarding.  Now, when I say precious, you’d think I only had 1. Nope.  I have maybe 10 but for some reason I was holding it for the perfect project. Did you hear the bad word?  Perfect.  Well, right now is the perfect time – so I used it.

I had the PanPastels out and the orange was just calling to me- and it really perked up the bingo card but I can still easily see all the numbers!  I could seal it with spray fixative, but I didn’t.  The PanPastels were rubbed in well so there won’t be much (if any) transfer issues to the other pages.

I went a bit crazy with the Silhouette cutting machine one day and made these huge words. And I love them!  Crazy thing, I felt myself starting to treat them as precious and had to remind myself I could just cut more!  A sloppy layer of paint was added to the cardstock word.

It was just not quite right yet, so some white oil pastel on the lines.

I am finding more and more reasons not to clean. This scalloped scrap was left out on the counter and worked perfectly here!  If I had cleaned, I never ever would have used it!

So as I look back at making this- I realize the bingo card was daring me to use it!  What’s daring you?

Step by Step Art Journal Page for the Rain Stencil Test Drive with Carolyn Dube

Stencil Test Drive

It is time for another stencil test drive!  What are we driving today? The magnificent Embrace the Rain stencil by Jessica Sporn.  Love that Jessica created figures that have the feeling of movement!  Be sure stop by the other drivers in this test drive: Marjie Kemper, Natasha May, Michelle Rydell and Jessica Sporn!

Can you tell which girl I am drawn to the most on this stencil?  She’s got such a fantastic pose that makes me think of embracing life, the wonder and excitement of a child, and soaking up the sun (or rain)!

This started with a layer of paint and randomly glued down scraps from die cutting letters with Tim Holtz’s Chip Block die.  I often find these remnants of die cutting more intriguing and useful than the actual letters!

Just one stenciling of rain wasn’t enough for me, so I added more rain.

Jessica designed such a great stencil- it can be used with the lines or without- and I love it both ways.  I just painted over the stencil lines at her legs, arms, and neck- you can still see a hint of the lines but it is much more subtle now.

Had to have writing on this!  Black was just too harsh so I went with gray.  Can’t read my writing?  Neither can I!  I don’t intend to ever read it again, the art journal for me is a way to process feelings that I have in that moment.

The title just wasn’t right to me in the gray alone so a fine line of orange paint.  I also outlined the girl and the raindrops to add a bit more of the gray.

Here’s another art journal page I did earlier with this stencil for Artists in Blogland.

Gelli printing on a shirt for the April Colorful Gelli Print Party with Carolyn Dube

Happy April 1st!  I am so very very excited for so many reasons!

1.  It’s party time with the Gelli Plate and we get to see what everyone has been creating!

2.  Now I have a fun shirt to wear to Art Is You in Nashville. Are you going?  Let me know, I’d love to say hi in person!  I’ll have on my Gelli printed shoes and this shirt-so I should be pretty easy to find!

3.  Monday is the first day of class for A Colorful Workshop: Gelli Printing!  It is actually live a day early because I’m like a kid at Christmas!   Couldn’t wait!   I have been so busy with so many different projects I have not had time to change the PayPal buttons on the class – so there is still time to grab the $10 discount.  No promises on how long it will be available after April 1st at that price, so grab it while you can!

4.  I get to have fun with my teenagers-they still haven’t forgotten the scoop of mashed potatoes in an ice cream cone…

THE COMPUTER MISBEHAVED! THIS VIDEO DID NOT UPLOAD CORRECTLY- WILL HAVE THE FULL VIDEO UPLOADED AS SOON AS I CAN GET BACK TO MY COMPUTER TO REDO IT.  SORRY! Latest update: The video has some sort of error in it that I don’t fully understand, just know that it was not salvageable…very sorry!

This shirt now has its first layers on it and several oops.  I did get bits of paint here and there where I didn’t plan but that is just proof to me that it will need more touches of color added.   Just like a Gelli print, this will end up with lots of layers before I call it complete. The next layers will be put on this shirt at Art Is You in Nashville.   Who knows where the next layers will come from!
