Stencil and Foam Board paint brush holders by Carolyn Dube FBXpress_logo

My colorful box of foam board arrived from Foam Board Express and I started playing.  Not my usual art journal play but 3-D play.  A fun colorful stenciled paper wrapped brush holders came out of the fun.   This is a blog hop so that means there’s lots more to see- be sure to check out what all the artists made and be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win the prize package!

Andrew Borloz's Cityscape StencilGirl Stencil

Can you recognize some of the stencils?  It’s Andrew Borloz’s Cityscape in black.  There’s a hint of Maria McGuire’s new Butterfly and Michelle Wards Circle 6.    And all sorts of bits and pieces of other stencils brought in a touch of color.

There is no bottom to these.  I just wanted a colorful way to store my paint brushes and the bottom just wasn’t really needed. Plus I would have had to have used a ruler to make a bottom that worked.  And you know how I feel about having to measure…

To help them stand easily I just glued them together with hot glue.

The Prize Package for one lucky winner includes:

Foam Boards Edge Group

From Foam Board Express, five 20×30 inch foam board sheets. One black, one white and the winner picks the other three colors!  Color choices include:  green, red, yellow, dark blue, neon yellow, neon orange and neon pink.

Video of art journaling inspired by Featuring Magazine by Carolyn Dube

I thought I was just going to read Featuring when I was asked to write a review of it.  That was the plan.  Then I read it and was so inspired to play  that a written review just wouldn’t do it justice. I  had to show you how the magazine sparked my play.

I am not even pretending that my art play here is exactly like the art in the magazine.  That wasn’t my goal.  My goal was to play and have fun art journaling.  Thank you to the staff of Featuring and all the amazing contributors  for inspiring my play with both the actual art work and the stories in the articles.

I have only mentioned some of what is the magazine.  There is a wonderful article by Tammy Garcia (big fan of her work) about her creative process and how she keeps her creativity sparked.  An article about mail art from around the globe.  I could go on and on…

This truly is a magazine of art journaling, mixed media and more.  You can find out all about Featuring here.  And they have a wonderful blog this month that gives you a taste of what is in their magazine.

Just click the play button to see my video of art journaling inspired by Featuring magazine.
