Video tutorial using StencilClub's Peacock stencil with Golden's High Flow Paint in an Art Journal

When I started playing with this wonderful peacock stencil in my art journal, I just let it take me where it wanted to go.  I wasn’t in control – the paint was completely in charge.  So freeing to let go of any expectations, any stress, and just create.  It felt incredibly  meditative – and this is the kind of meditation I can get in to…thanks Jessica for an amazing set of stencils!

Guess you could say I “got into the flow”….oh silly me…you won’t get that joke until you’ve watched me play with Golden’s High Flow Paints in the video…

Video tutorial using Inktense pencils and a stencil designed by Mary Beth Shaw for StencilGirl Flower Tiles by Mary Beth Shaw for StencilGirl Products

The craziest thing happened when the mail arrived with Mary Beth Shaw’s newest stencil, Flower Tiles!  I was inspired to play.  That’s not the crazy part.  I was inspired to play with Inktense pencils.  Nope.  That’s not crazy either.  The crazy part?  That I created something very subtle compared to my usual play.

What am I using for my art journal? An old hardback book.  What’s the blue?  Paint from when I clean off my brayer while Gelli printing.  When I started my play today I just flipped around for a color that called to me and ended up on this page.

Video tutorial of mixed media and stencil play inspired by icicles by Carolyn Dube

As a former elementary school teacher, snow days will always hold a special place in my heart.  Snow days meant unexpected artful days in the studio.   We didn’t get the snow today that the weatherman promised, okay, predicted…But I decided to take a snow day for play anyway with icicles on a canvas!
