Ode to the Stencil

Ode to the Stencil with Carolyn DubeThe sun is shining, flowers are starting to bloom and the stencils are singing- maybe the birds too but I am only hearing the stencils.   The layers of paint that have built up on them have hypnotized me.  Not just the “hypnotized from doing laundry and cleaning” (because a paperclip can hypnotize me when it comes to avoiding that stuff); hypnotized from doing the stuff too!

So nice to see someone else with a stencil addiction! I cannot resist a good stencil (covered in paint is even better). Inspiration for me lately is your Gelli Printing Class – my mind is whirling with ideas (even in my sleep)!

Oh yummy looking stencils. I’m not cleaning mine anymore. Love your humor, my friend.

Just bought 2 new stencils this weekend and they are waaaaayyyyy to clean. Can’t wait to get them as pretty as yours! Loving the Gelli Print classes and so glad to see that when I started checking for the posting on Sunday that you’re as excited as I am and have posted Monday’s class a day early 🙂 Thank you for that! I had just spent the previous week cutting out homemade stencils (including a mermaid LOL) and looking forward to finding some time to use them this week.

Marvelous seeing all that paint embedded on the stencil, mine look like that too! So many patterns out there, so many stencils, just ask Judy, we were drooling over them Saturday at Ink About It…Grabbing my attention, painting offBeat on whatever materials I can find, got a drawer, some plywood and an old beat up chalk board, oh and a vintage suitcase waiting for some art. xox

Aw, I saw the title and I thought you were going to write a poem about stencils: “My lovely stencil, firm and true, oh how I long to ink on you….”

  • Valerie-Jael April 15, 2013, 3:56 pm

And I thought I was the only one who didn’t clean her stencils….relief! Valerie

I’ve been going absolutely crazy designing my own to cut on my personal cutting machine. I have so many fun designs and I can’t wait to get them all cut out so I can use them! If you know of anyone who needs a designer, let me know! 😉
    Fondly, Tami

Well IF EVER you get fed up with doing your lovely prints, you could hang your beautiful stencils on the wall, they look gorgeous!

  • Kay Wallace April 16, 2013, 9:57 am

All great stencils, lovingly still covered with more than bits of color! I have tried to clean my stencils after using them, but, since the only water in my studio comes in bottles and jars, it’s not working too well! What is occupying my time and mind? Well, I finally bought that Gelli Plate! Nuf said! 😉

  • Tracy April 19, 2013, 8:41 pm

If only gardening were this much fun! I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses stencils to print with as well. Just hate to waste anything…

  • Hagit April 22, 2013, 2:23 pm

Oh yes, so lovely! :)) I’ve never understood why people clean them 🙂
