Merry Christmas from My Art Journal

Happy Holidays!  Hard to believe it is here already!  On Christmas morning, I am unwrapping a jumbo Gelli Plate.  I’ve seen its shiny red wrapping.  I feel like a I am 5 years old again thinking about the day!

That gift is what sparked A Colorful Gelli Print Party that begins on January 1st.  Hope you will stop by and join in the link party!   You can grab the blog button over on the sidebar on the right!

Here’s today’s art journal play:  I randomly stamped various Christmas stamps.  Creamy dreamy Pan Pastels gave me bright and vibrant colors!  I sealed them with acrylic gloss medium.

Journaling about Christmas and my wishes for the world.

Spray inks using Jessica Sporn’s Medieval Leaves stencil.

A coat of gesso over the spray inked areas.

Using a map stencil from Artist Cellar I added the path I envisioned Santa taking.

Cathedral window die cuts from Memory Box painted black.  I hadn’t planned on using black but plans definitely change when I am arting.  Does that happen to you too?

Using a Tim Holtz alphabet die I cut out the words that summed up what I would love for Santa to bring to the world: hope, love, kindness, and peace- and Gelli plates for everyone!

Have a wonderful holiday season! Linking up with Anything But a Card, Mandarin Orange Monday, Creative Every Day, and Inspire Me Monday.

    Lovely page!
Question: When you use Pan Pastels, how do you seal them with acrylic gloss medium? Do you just paint it over them? and don’t they get activated and smear?

It depends how careful I am. On this one I just smushed it around since there wasn’t any real detail to preserve. I like the dreamy look of the pan pastels under the gloss medium- so I try to get some of that smearing. When I want a crisp sealing I use the spray can sealers like workable fixative.

You got the jumbo Gelli? Boy, Santa was really good to you. I love what you did with the PPs. The stencils and colors you chose are right on. Let’s hope the 2013 brings a better world of peace, love and friendships around the world.

I love this! Absolutely love it! It makes me smile – all the colours, the composition itself, the stencils (of course) and the beautiful, love-filled and joy-filled sentiments it expresses so beautifully.

Wishing you not just the Jumbo Gelli Plate – which of course is a brilliant gift to receive on the big day! – but for a beautiful, happy and joyous Christmas, and a very happy and healthy new year, for you and for all your loved ones. Shona Nollaig Dhuitt, Carolyn! – June

Love the happy, non traditional colors. How brilliant to seal just those images with the medium! Beautiful use of the stencils (haha!) and I love the pops of black — they really tie the page in with the stamps and the die cuts. Have a beautiful holiday my friend.
