Medieval Leaves Stencil Test Drive

It’s time for another great ride on the Stencil Test Drive!

Jessica Sporn has brought us another stencil that is full of possibilities- the Medieval leaves stencil!  Be sure to drive over and check out all the great posts for this test drive from Ronda Palazzari, Maria McGuire, Corrine Gilman of Sparkle Day Studio, and of course, Jessica Sporn!

Below is a  video of the making of the background paper and how the layers of color and pattern built up using Jessica’s wonderful stencil!

I made so many different papers with this stencil as I played and played.  Greens and purples below were such a wonderful surprise! All I was expecting was blue and this is the gift I found because I didn’t clean spray inks off of my stencil very well!

Since I used this stencil over and over with paint I would pat off the excess in a journal.  I love how this turned out!

Now back to our regularly scheduled art journal page!

In the shapes I saw a figure so out came a black pen!  She’s not my usual style but there she was so I had to draw her.

Who doesn’t need purple hair with pink highlights?

She reminded me how much fun it is to be curious, especially since I had spent the afternoon just playing and exploring with Jessica’s Medieval leaves stencil!

Be sure to drive over and check out all the great posts for this test drive from  Ronda Palazzari, Maria McGuire, Corrine Gilman of Sparkle Day Studio, and of course, Jessica Sporn!  Want more creativity?  Check out Paint Party Friday and Creative Every Day!

The deli tip is great! The girl-cute!

  • Maria McGuire December 20, 2012, 9:21 am

I agree–you had to draw her! Be Curious is the PERFECT word for her expression! I love the background. You have a whole plaid thing going on there. I have to tell you the journal “wipe off” is intriguing to me. I see some big inspiration on those 2 pages. Watching your video–what a wonderful way to have my coffee!

I love how the stencil adds such wonderful texture and interest to the background! Lol, my two year old was sitting next to me as I was reading this and when she saw the picture of the girl you drew she started waving and yelling, “Mommy! It’s a doll! Hi, doll!” 🙂

She is utterly adorable and i love that you “had to draw her.” The background is stellar. Totally awesome! Don’t you love creating with gelatin plates?

  • Judy Shea December 20, 2012, 3:18 pm

You make me want to dance around like Snoopy on Charlie Brown. That was fun. All the colors you got on the one page. Loverly. Dolly is adorable!

What a great video! Love how much you packed into 2 minutes and you made fantabulous prints with the stencil. Love that one you featured above… it’s ornate!

  • Kay Wallace December 20, 2012, 8:27 pm

I love the stencil! I am “under-stenciled,” if that’s a word. I want more! Love that you used the stencil in the background instead of “in you face.” I am liking subtle lately!

  • Gloria J Zucaro December 22, 2012, 10:33 pm

I am going to watch that video over and over! I just got a gelli plate and have never used it! What kind of paper are you printing onto? Did you wipe off the gelli after each paint application…well I will go look more closely! Love the finished project with the hidden leaves from “Medieval Leaves” peeking through. and the “appearing out of the blue” lady.

  • Elisa Choi December 23, 2012, 2:55 am
