Have You Ever Been Frozen by Fear?

Video tutorial showing how to handle fear with Carolyn Dube

Have you ever felt frozen by fear when you are trying to be creative?  I  have.  I fought the fear.  Battled it.  I thought fear was the enemy.   It wasn’t.  It was how I was dealing with the fear that was the problem.

Fighting the fear didn’t work for me so I tried acknowledging it- dare I say embracing it. Those fears just wanted to be heard. Once they were, then I was free to create.

I decided I needed a special place for those fears.  I used Eileen Hull’s 3D Cubes die to build a box to hold these fears.  A place to remind me that FEAR is just Feelings Expressed Allows Relief.  The video shows how this box came together.

Watch How to handle the fear when being creative on YouTube.

Some days I have a whole lot fears to write down.  Other days just one or two.  Some fears only show up once and others seem to appear ever day.  It doesn’t matter how many I have to write down because there is no magic number or limit.  It is whatever I need.

Next time you feel any fear think of it as a reminder that Feelings Expressed Allows Relief!

What a great idea to keep “fears” out of the way and give place to creativity! I loved it Carolyn!

I’m so glad that you did this posting! I always feel fear when I should be feeling creative. There seems to be some expectation that I have to meet to have my art be “good enough”. I make the huge mistake of comparing my personal creativity with other people’s. Especially when it comes to drawing or painting. Because I can do neither…lol!

Carolyn…FEAR is my number one enemy!! And I DO have it!! Ugh! I will sit down to create then this voice in my head will whisper, sometimes scream YOU ARE NOT CREATIVE…not like everyone else that is. Oh how I hate hearing that!! Once I get into a rhythm and begin losing myself in the MOMENT I am fine. That is when my creativeness really takes off!!

Carolyn…I don’t always comment but I am here a lot! Love seeing your work!!!!!

How I needed this idea Right Now!! I don’t always comment – yes, that is a fear. I don’t have this die cut, but I do have a small box that I can substitute. A place for my fears. How wonderful. Thank you!!

Carolyn, thank you for an excellent blog post & video. It’s such a good idea & one I shall be copying. I hope to get that cutting die too. I’d love to make my own cube, but I’m hopeless at measuring & I cannot cut a straight line.

Carolyn I so needed this today. This is the most wonderful post and video. I have so many fears about creating and when I see all of the great work done by my fellow artists, sometimes I just want to stop or at the very least stop sharing my work. You are so encouraging and my word for this month is Embrace, so I am going to be more specific and embrace fear.
