This month’s tutorial shows how to seal PanPastels with the Gelli Plate. This wasn’t my idea, it was Mary Anne’s from over at scrappystickyinkymess. You probably recognize her as regular Gelli Partier! She was kind enough to grant me permission to share her idea with you in a video. Thanks Mary Anne!
One little thing to note about this…you do need to clean off the Gelli Plate every time you seal PanPastels if you want it “perfect”. A small amount of the color gets left behind and will appear on the next paper that you seal. I actually like how that looks to so I don’t clean it off every time. You’re shocked. I know…

this is so useful as i have used pan pastels and i spray a cheap hair spray over to fix them but i dont like the smell and the nuisance of it so this is perfect for me.

well done! Do bear in mind, too, that it works brilliantly for sealing ink jet printed text. I like to print title sometimes for my AJ pages but am always frustrated when I brush over acrylic medium and the text gets all smeary. Well, using the Gelli plate to seal the text (or images, for that matter) means that isn’t an issue. Do clean the plate afterwards, and it helps to massage in some baby oil as well, if the ink transfers to the plate – that will pull it right out. I did get a confirmation from Gelli Arts that baby oil is fine to use BTW. This post shows that http://scrappystickyinkymess.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/just-some-more-gelli-sealing-samples/ and the following one shows using a bit of fun foam in lieu of a Gelli plate – not as good but it’ll do in a pinch 🙂

Congrats to the lucky winners! I have only a couple of PanPastels and don’t use them because I don’t want to go outside to spray the fixative! I do, however, have gel medium and a Gelli plate! WooHoo! Thanks for this great tip! Mwah! KayW

Sorry to hear you’re moving to Google+! I have many privacy concerns with how they handle their accounts, so I won’t be participating in the Gelli Print Party anymore. I’ll still be Gelli printing though!

This is so much better for fixing pan pastels. The sprays are noxious and have to be used “in a well ventilated area” i.e. outside. Outside sometimes is just not an option. Thanks to Mary Anne for letting you share.

I had to put my gelli play off for some time as other projects called. I finally got to play this weekend and came to join the party, so I too am sorry to see the Gelli party move to Google, simply because I already have enough on my social network plate so no plans to join Google. I know you guys will have fun!
