Releasing Emotions onto My Art Journal

I was full of feelings I didn’t really want.  Logic told me to let them go but I was just holding on to them.  To help me process the emotions I started scribbling my thoughts in gelatos on a big paper. Then I grabbed markers and scribbled more feelings.   Then watercolor crayons.  Then reinkers.   It created wonderful graffiti layers and released my feelings.  For me, writing it out has such an impact – so much more than talking or typing.

A layer of white paint pushed the layers back some while the gelatos and watercolor crayons subtly tinted the paint – just as emotions tint the way we see the world.  I don’t have a plan for this so it will just go into my stash of  background papers ready for when my muse drops in for a Diet Coke.

I like this idea of getting it out and down on paper and then putting gesso over it. Seems to soothe somehow.

I am loving your release. All those bright colors, all those emotions sloshing around together, yum. LOL when your muse comes in for a diet coke!! xox

What a helpful exercise and cool result for a background. Looks like something right out of the ‘messy’ book group.

Great therapy! I see a terrific page for writing on now with a black sharpie. Or drawing on perhaps or collaging on or all three maybe? Have fun!

Thanks for your visit to my blog today! And for your comment. I sure will post when that honeysuckle blooms!!! You’ll be able to smell it where you are! 😉

This reminds me of the Doodles that Traci Bautista makes in her Doodles Unleashed book. Only I like yours better!!

That is inspiring. I love writing artfully in my journal, but worry that the text will be legible. The wash gives just the right feeling. It leaves the intensity and intent but takes away specific meanings. Great job!

Some days you want things out but don’t necessarily want to keep them around. Putting them out on paper and then covering them up is really cathartic. Hope you’re feeling better xx

Gorgeous! Love how you buried the bad and negative, and it became something beautiful!

This was a great way to get rid of all those emotions that get in the way of really enjoying life. I hope you will share what happens when you decide to use this piece as a background. I have a feeling this could be just the beginning of a great life lesson and story.

Carolyn, this is great. There’s nothing like venting on paper. i love how you ended with a white wash too. It’ll end up being a perfect background for something, someday. xoxo
