I owe so much of who I am to my mother.  Even though breast cancer took her from me long ago  her impact, the lessons she taught me, her voice (which I hear in my head too often), her zest for life continue to be with me.  As I celebrate my artist tape article in the March/April issue of Somerset Studio, I wanted to let her know how much I appreciate all she did for me.

I used a photo of her as a child with a frame of artist tape.  The frame is also great for your remnant pieces of tape.  Peerless watercolors glide on like butter when using a photo. This is a modern glossy photo- I tend to use copies of older photos so I don’t feel “bad” if I “ruin” it. As you can see, I still seem addicted to color- the more the merrier!

Thanks for stopping by for my celebration of my artist tape article in Somerset Studio’s March/April issue!

This is an old yearbook page cut down to fit in my junk journal.  As I looked at the people on the page, I began to think about all the wonderful people I have in my life.  Each one is unique and most are characters, hence the bright colors.

After I had all the colors on the faces I wanted a touch of color on the side.  I also wanted a touch of pattern, but with the bright colors and small space left I felt going off the page was the best option so I made tabs out of my artist tape.  The tabs are also great if you just a little bit of a color left- none of this tape ever goes to waste.

This is a journal page I did in the summer. The artist tape was the inspiration for the rest of my color choices as I built this page reacquainting me with a color I had stayed away from for so very long, orange.   You can see the step by step for this journal page here.

Thanks for stopping by as I celebrate my artist tape in the March/April issue of Somerset Studio  This whole week is dedicated to using the artist tape.

When I create with my artist tape I often have little bits left over.  I hate to waste it since it was so much fun to make- almost feels like wasting fun.  So I save all those little bits. I put them on old cardboard from just about anything for durability.  Once the cardboard is full I run it through the die-cutting machine.  Below is a journal page I made using one of these die-cuts.

A background using gesso, spray inks, and whatever else was on my brush.

Used Tim Holtz’s die-cut to make the houses out of book text and then watercolored them.

Used another Tim Holtz die cut to make the dres form from my artist tape cardboard.  The wings were also die cut and then colored with Inktense watercolor blocks.  The moon face is a rubber stamp from Stampa Rosa.

Here it is all finished.  White lines around the buildings  offset the black text and lighten it up a bit. Black lines on the wings  tie in the black ink from the tape. Green flower hair and a few words.  Did manage to sneak in a bit of sparkle with the glitter letters.
