This has been a journal page that has spanned months. I started it and then it buried under a pile of other projects. Does that ever happen to you? As I cleaned up my studio I found this and finished it instead of finishing my cleaning…
Started with gesso and a bit of modeling paste and punchinella for texture.
As a kid I loved going to the Cincinnati Zoo because of the peacocks that roamed freely. Their magnificent colors and plumage were the best part of the day. When I saw Julie Balzer’s peacock stencil I had to own it. Here I used it with pan pastels.
Sealed with a bit of acrylic polymer from Dick Blick.
Ever sit down to art and nothing seems to happen? When I get hit with this I often start making elements for the future. These were made so long ago- various rubber stamps of journaling boxes onto a randomly colored paper. These came in very handy for this journal page.
I kept adding touches of color. Almost colored the photos but in the end the black and white contrast won out.
Over the years I have collected quite a few old photos which I found almost as precious as my own family photos. Not any more. I am determined to start using those supplies I have saved for the “perfect project” since the “perfect project” comes along so infrequently.
I have no idea who these people are but they still had a story to share with me. They inspired my journaling guided me along the way as I created this. What’s been inspiring you lately? Need inspiration? Check out Art Journal Every Day and Creative Every Day!
My art journaling is off the page and on the canvas this week. I am excited that I left so much white space here since I rarely seem to do that! Every time I thought about adding something it only detracted from it so that told me it was complete.
I’m working with a painfully slow internet connection today. I think Fred and Barney are in the back peddling as fast as they can to get the internet to work….Keeping this short so I can spend the next hour trying to get it to upload. I won’t ever take my high speed internet for granted again!
Linking up with Art Journal Every Day, Out of the Journal 2012, Paint Party Friday, and Creative Every Day. Stop on by these great places to see all these talented people getting creative!
Started by gluing down old newspaper that protected the table when I was spray inking something. Don’t remember what I inked but you bet I saved the scrap paper.
A layer of gesso because lately I think everything needs a layer of gesso. Then I froze. I began over thinking what to do next.
Stuck for an idea, I started rubber stamping around the edges. The stamping got the canvas moving. At least I wasn’t stuck anymore.
No inspiration on what to do next so I just started randomly stamping all over it. Then I started over thinking again. To thwart that I decided this canvas was going to be finished today- it is just a canvas. Why did it feel like there were lives hanging in the balance?
A few globs of paint on my fingers and now it was all coming into perspective – all it is a canvas. Absolutely no idea where this is heading yet but it didn’t matter because there’s paint on my hands.
Painted in a temple with stencil cut on my Silhouette. Thought it would look different here. Just as I started obsessing about this I was reminded that the fate of mankind did not hinge on this painting. Just add more paint.
Green usually works but I just had to laugh at how it did NOT do what I expected here. No worries- that is what a white oil pastel crayon is for- to push that green way back. Still not popping off the background enough for me- so I added more color.
Still didn’t do enough for me. Finally it hit me. I didn’t have any words or text. Out came the marker. Now it felt finished.
