Art Journal page using a Gelli print, PanPastels, and a stencil from the free workshop Use Your Words

Who knew when I started playing I would end up in Outer Mongolia!  I’ve been secretly working on a new free workshop, A Colorful Workshop: Use Your Words and the “stuff” from that is all over my counters.  So are Gelli Plate papers from the February Gelli party.  Okay, confession time, there is stuff all over the counters from the last Gelli party too!  I am not a big fan of cleaning and it worked to my advantage today!

For the Artsy Fartsy challenge with Maria McGuire I had to use 3 things: letters, PanPastels, and sewing.  I searched on my counters for inspiration and sure enough- I found it in the piles on my counters…Be sure to stop and see what she made!

I grabbed a dictionary page that I had cleaned my brayer on while plating and had used it with purple letters on the Gelli Plate too.  This dictionary page had also been a test page for the white journey stencil (from that free workshop I mentioned above).

In my excitement I glued it into the journal.  Before the stitching.  Oops.  New plan.

Pan Pastels around the edges.  Love how much control I have when coloring with them!

I will build an embellishment with stitching on it!  To get some stitching in here I grabbed a Gelli print and stitched lines on it.

The white letters were too plain for me so I added silver glitter rub-on.

I cut strips of the purple paper into arrows and outlined JOURNEY with a Stabilo pencil– that thing will write over anything it seems- even glitter!

It was at this point that I noticed the Outer Mongolia at the top of the page…how fitting!

I have been bubbling over with excitement- the  Gelli Print party by itself is exciting but I have something else up my sleeve…it’s almost ready to be revealed. Just a few finishing touches…When you stop back to check out all the great Gelli Prints at the party keep an eye out for the news.  Of course, all my wonderful newsletter subscribers (top right of this page) will find out first to learn about this.  You can read about my newsletters here.

Now it’s your turn!  Share anything Gelli from prints to finished projects!  The February linky will be open all month so be sure to pop back and see what everyone is making!

  • Link up your Gelli Plate blog posts, flickr page, YouTube videos – it is all welcome!  New posts or recent posts are welcome!
  • Add a link back to the party so others can join us too!
  • Leave a comment on at least 2 other links from the party.  You know how wonderful kind comments encourage us creative types!
  • Participate as many times as you want- just be sure it relates to the Gelli Plate.  If you notice your link deleted it is because it didn’t have a thing to do with the Gelli plate and that is what we’re celebrating here!

Join me for a Colorful Gelli Print Party!I missed the Gelli print party so much I decided to do it each month in 2013!  On the 1st of each month I’ll have a new Gelli something and the link party will let us all share our prints.  The next Gelli party is coming up on this  Friday, February 1st!  I am so excited to see what magic the Gelli Plate is making for everyone!  I’ve got a fabulous (if I do say so myself) new project and video for you on Friday, so be sure to stop back on Friday.

If you’ve watched many of my videos with the Gelli Plate you know I get a bunch of prints off of one application of paint.   When I am making Gelli prints I often have ghost prints. Sometimes more ghost prints than I anticipated so I just grab a paper and see what happens.  The Gelli prints I am sharing today were all unexpected delights.

The layers will build up and at some point in the process a paper just grabs my attention and I know it is time to set it aside- it is finished.

There is so much depth and detail in a layered ghost prints.  On these examples you can even see the texture of the canvas I had put on the Gelli Plate!   You can click on the images to get a closer look.

This one surprised me by how much the colors changed when I added the top layer.  I thought it was so light that it would get lost in it.  Nope. The Gelli Plate surprised me again!  Are you ever surprised and thrilled by what you create?

The  link party will be up on Friday, February 1st and will be up all month.  You are welcome to link up any Gelli print post that has not been linked in any of the previous Gelli print parties.  Can’t wait to see what you’ve been printing!
