I painted with rain, not in the rain, but with the rain. Thanks to Mother Nature, the rain acted as my paintbrush to blend and smear the color. A huge bonus is that I did not have to clean this paintbrush when I was finished and I was able to make so many so quickly.
It had been raining so I decided to use that to my advantage and paint with it! First, I smeared acrylic paint on the canvas.
Then I put the canvas outside in the rain. I angled it against a picnic table. This way the rain would hit the canvas and smear the paint around for me in a great drippy way. It did not take very long for the rain do its magic. There was a small amount of color that washed onto the cement but it was not there long as the rain washed it away too!
After about 5-10 minutes I brought this in and set it down flat on the studio floor. I don’t care what gets on my floor but if you care about yours, just put down a plastic trash bag and/or newspapers to catch any drips.
How long you leave it in the rain will change how much color is washed away, so keep an eye on it. It was so much fun to watch it mingle and blend!
Here are some other canvases the rain and I made together using any brand of paint I could find. Love that the rain likes any of my acrylic paints! Now I have a stash of backgrounds ready for the next layer.
My muse sends me messages. She doesn’t call. It’s more like a telegram. Just short instructions. I made the choice to follow the art journaling ideas from my muse.
But first I had to get out of my head because I was thinking way way way too much. In the video, you’ll even see me learn which end of the paintbrush to use…
All these letters and cut up bits were leftovers from another art journal page. On that page I asked my muse to send me an idea. You can see that page over on StencilGirl Talk.
And she did! It was to use up the scraps. Clean up and art at the same time. Thanks for the telegram, Muse!
This is right after I listened to the telegram my muse gave me with the stenciling. It was a very clear telegram too…erase and redo!
I am so glad I listened to her even though I didn’t really understand why at the time.
A big thanks to my muse for the messages and guidance. Do you ever get those messages while you are arting? I’d love to hear what your muse is telling you!
I did something I almost never ever do in my art journal. I kept things clean. No smudges. No smears. Loads of white space. Who would have guessed that is where the lightbulb would take me!
This stencil is part of April’s exclusive StencilClub stencils. Everyone who is signed up by April 15th will have these coming to them in the mail! You can find out all the details and sign up here.
I created the stencils I wanted to play with and have had a blast using them. You can see a quick watercolor card I made with the clock stencil over at StencilGirl Talk. There will be more fun coming with these stencils both here and over at StencilGirl Talk in the next week too so be sure to stop on back!
