Video tutorial sharing how to use masks and stencils to make a colorful art journal page by Carolyn DubeWhat inspires me to make a stencil? It can be anything.  In fact, I never know what will spark the muse until it happens.  What sparked my latest designs at StencilGirl Products?  Dancers!

Learning to Dance stencil by Carolyn Dube for StencilGirl Products

After watching a classical ballet performance, I was struck by all the effort, the hard work, and the commitment that goes in to being a dancer- ballet or any other kind for that matter.  It got me thinking about how that applies to life too.  You have to commit to making your life the life you want. It takes effort, it takes work, but it is also full of fun and joy and incredible moments.

TThe Dance of This Life stencil and 6 masks by Carolyn Dube for StencilGirl Productshe Dance of this Life stencil comes with the 6 masks of the dancers.  There are some real perks to having masks of those figures and in the video I share how they helped me “cheat” when building this art journal page!

Watch How to use masks and stencils in an art journal page on YouTube.

One of the dancers I watched stumbled.  She missed a step but she picked herself right up and embraced the rest of her dance with her head held high.  I had more respect for her because of her stumble, not less.  She showed what she was made of when she had the courage to get up and keep going after a very public Oops.  That’s life. It isn’t perfect but it is always worth the effort.

A great big thank you to the entire StencilGirl Products team for making these stencils a reality!  It is an honor and a joy to work with a family run business!

Here are the supplies I used. Some of these links are affiliate links which means I get a small percentage. It doesn’t cost you anything extra and you are helping me keep this blog and my videos ad free! Thank you- I don’t like ads any more than you do!

How to make textured and patterned Gelli prints® with cheap lace video for the week's Let's Play link party! Let's Play, a link party where you can be inspired and be inspiring!

What neglected supply did I find to play with today?  A roll of stiff white lace.  Anything that is white in my studio begs to have some color added. But what colors?

Darker colors that I rarely use. Why?  Using often ignored supplies makes playing exciting because it is almost like the supplies are new again to me.

New to Let’s Play?  It’s all about how to let go and embrace the fun of artful play.  Each Tuesday, there’s a new link party where I’m sharing my play and you can link up to share your play.  And yes, it can be any creative play!  Plus there’s a monthly $50 gift certificate giveaway!

Using the lace, you can make one color prints with a Gelli Plate® that are fast and unique like the blue ones above.  The excitement builds when you start layering the colors.  When you lift up the paper, there is that rush of wondering what will appear!  The purple/green print is probably my favorite.  It screams mermaid tails to me.

Making jewelry with Gelli printed® packing tape workshop with Carolyn Dube

I’ve got two brand new workshops this spring using the Gelli Plate®!  I’ll be teaching both of these at Artsicape in Columbus, OH plus I’ll be demoing with the plate at the Friday Kick Off party.  If you’ve never been to Artiscape, it has the most wonderful creative vibe.  I’m counting down the days until April 22-24th and hope to see you there!

You’ll get the no-fail secret recipe for how to make weathered artistic layers of paint and texture full of your favorite colors so that when you pull that tape off the plate it takes your breath away.

A bonus of the process is that you will create a stack of scrumptious colorful prints while prepping your plate for the tape transfer.  Next, you’ll turn the colorful tape into pendants and customize the color of the bezels to match your unique gems so that when you walk out the door you’ll have 2 complete pendants each with 24” matching chains.  One for you and one to give…or both for you!

You can find out all about this workshop and registration here.
