Video sharing how I get over the urge to hoard supplies - playing with Heidi Swapp mistables and a Prima art journal for this week's Let's Play link party!

Are they treasured supplies or am I hoarding?  No matter what the name of it is, it fills up my studio with stuff.  Spring time in the US means spring cleaning for the studio.  But how can I get myself to use these precious things I have been saving so long?  By freaking out the inner collector (okay hoarder) in me!  That’s what I’m sharing each week this month for Let’s Play.

Before we dive into this play…I’ve got the winner of the $50 gift certificate for March’s Let’s Play!  Drumroll please….it’s Linda Kilsdonk!  Congrats Linda!  Want to win this month’s $50 gift certificate to Blue Moon Scrapbooking?  Be sure to leave a comment or share what you’re creating (and that gets you a bonus entry!)

Video sharing how I get over the urge to hoard supplies - playing with Heidi Swapp mistables and a Prima art journal for this week's Let's Play link party! These mistables by Heidi Swapp and Tattered Angels are from 2009 (and I doubt available any longer).  I’ve had them that long waiting for the “right” project for them.  After all, I don’t want to waste them.  That’s what the voice in my head has said and guess what, they haven’t been used.  The journal is from Prima from who knows when.  I’ve put a little in it, but then it was largely ignored.  But no longer!

What if I just used it now?  That makes the collector in me panic- which doesn’t lead to carefree play.  So I add an extra twist to force myself to use it. One little sentence that gets the collector to quiet down and lets me play.

Here’s the guideline for anti-hoarder play: Use it or lose it.  If I don’t use it up, I have to throw it away or donate it.  Once I start using something like this, it’s pretty hard to donate a half used something so that means most likely the trash for any that goes unused.

Throw it away- the collector/hoarder in me panics at that thought.  Which makes using it a far better option.

Video sharing how I get over the urge to hoard supplies - playing with Heidi Swapp mistables and a Prima art journal for this week's Let's Play link party!I started by coloring the crepe paper with Color Bursts in the new Caribbean colors. But there is a lot of paper in that pack so I had to figure out how to use it all.  Ruffles to the rescue!

Lots and lots of ruffles…while I was waiting for the colorful ones to dry, I ruffled up more pages with the black and white patterned crepe papers.  And why did I feel the need to use it all?  Because what I didn’t use, I was going to lose.

Modeling Paste Play Workshop giveaway!
I’m impatient and that can be a very good thing! I love the look of modeling paste but hate to wait for it to dry. That got me thinking about different ways to use modeling paste so that I could have the awesomeness of it without waiting.

And that is how the Modeling Paste Play a la carte workshop series came to be. 3 lessons for you to choose, each with 40+ minutes of video ready right now for you! These videos go into the hows and whys so you can play with confidence. This is content you won’t see explained on my YouTube channel.

I’ve figured out the details so you can focus on the fun. In these videos, you’ll see everything from start to finish. You get it all so you can jump right in and start playing. And of course, you’ll have access to me to answer any questions you might have in the classroom.

Modeling Paste Play: Dimensional Decals

What if you could make decals (3D stickers) from a stencil design and not have to cut a thing out? This a la carte workshop shares the easiest ways from start to finish I have found to do this.

It’s all the awesomeness of modeling paste with depth and detail but by making them ahead of time you can rapidly add them side by side (or even on top of each other) without risking smearing or smudging wet modeling paste.

Along with how to make the dimensional decals, we’re using them to create a piece of colorful art too!

Modeling Paste Play: Spray Inks and Tissue Paper

I love the texture of modeling paste, especially when I can layer images and shapes.  But modeling paste takes a while to dry and I don’t like to wait. That led me to experiment and find a way to get all the benefits of modeling paste without the waiting!

In this a la carte workshop, we’re creating an art journal page (or call it a collage if you don’t put it in a journal) from start to finish.  We’ll create the stenciled modeling paste patterns then you’ll see how I use them to build the art journal page and all the wonderful benefits of tissue paper- like being able to see exactly what it will look like before you attach anything! These glorious colors you see here- they’re all from Dylusions spray inks.

Modeling Paste Play:Colorful Patterned Papers

I adore the look of little bits of layered color all around the page but I am not willing to spend hours carefully placing each little drop of color.

My solution to that? Let the textures created with modeling paste and stencils do the heavy lifting for me.  This a la carte workshop uses modeling paste with acrylic paints and oil pastels as we explore different color combinations plus ways to alter a stenciled design.

Modeling Paste Play: Bonus Workshop

I just couldn’t stop playing with the colorful textures I created in the 3 a la carte workshops.   So I made a bonus video that uses techniques from all 3 workshops: Dimensional Decals, Colorful Patterned Papers, and Spray Inks and Tissue Paper.  The bonus workshop also includes even more techniques!

How can you get this bonus?  By ordering all 3 a la carte workshops at the same time!  It will be automatically included for you!

Teaching at Art Is You Stamford! This October I’ll be heading to Stamford, CT to teach (really that is play to me) at Art is You.  I say play because that what art retreats are to me, a place to express creativity, to have fun, to meet wonderful creatives, and all of that adds up to play!  I’ll be teaching Friday-Sunday, October 7-9, 2016 and hope to see you there for all the fun and festivities that make Art is You so creatively energizing!

In person workshop upcycling and transforming old beat up purses into wearable art with Carolyn Dube

This workshop was inspired by my all time favorite purse that had begun to show it’s age.  Scuffed, the snap was broken off, but it was still sturdy and just the perfect purse for me.  Adding just a little hint of color…okay a lot of color…brought it back to life!  That purse led to the next and then I just couldn’t stop.  In this workshop I am sharing all that I have learned including how to paint on any purse with any paint.   You can find out more about this workshop here and watch the video introduction to the workshop here.

In person Gelli prinitng® workshop - Unlocking the Magic of the Gelli Plate® with Carolyn Dube

Unlocking the Magic of the Gelli Plate® is all about the 3 keys to making an amazing print.  Once you know these 3 things the sky’s the limit!  Also included will be a fun way to master the color wheel without any effort or technical knowledge so you can play with the entire rainbow of wet paint and never make mud!  No experience necessary to make amazing prints, and be prepared to make a mountain of them in this all day workshop!  Find out more about this workshop here and watch the video introduction here.

In person art journaling workshop with Carolyn Dube called Letting Yourself Play

Ever feel frustrated or disappointed when you create? I used to feel that way all the time. Those feelings drained all my creativity and chased the muse away. But she came back. How? Through play.

But how do you play? I’m sharing actionable steps and techniques to do at each stage in this workshop so you can use that moment of being stuck to actually move yourself forward!

Letting Yourself Play is a workshop near and dear to my heart because I know first hand how tough it can be to rediscover how to play.  This workshop is limited to only 10 people so that you get lots of 1-on-1 guidance.  Find out more about this workshop here and watch the video introduction here.
