Join Me on a Virtual Beach Vacation

Do you have lots of mature, grown up responsibilities and duties on your plate right now?  Would you like to take a vacation but can’t?  Come with me!  I am taking a virtual vacation to the beach.  How can you join me?  By linking up your vacation blog posts, ocean and beach inspired art, anything that makes you feel like you have taken a virtual vacation!  This way we can all vacation together!  You can use posts from previous vacations to relive the memories or you can make new ones – it is up to you.

I have a virtual vacation creativity pack to give away at the end of the vacation to one of my fellow “travelers” who link up and share their virtual vacations.   My vacation starts today and I’ll be “returning” from vacation on Friday, June 15th.  After I unpack, I’ll be randomly drawing for the giveaway on Saturday, June 16th!  I hope you’ll join me!  This is open to everyone (newbies, veterans,  my friends at  Paint Party Friday, Creative Every Day,   Art Journal Every Day,   Inspire Me Monday , and well, EVERYONE!).   I will happily ship internationally.

The ocean is what I love staring at while art journaling.  It is my happy place.  The level of joy I felt art journaling on my last vacation there was off the charts.

Since I didn’t have my entire studio with me I had to use what I had.  I used these great Mica Gloss inks but the tip was clogged.  I ended up just sticking the handle of the brush into the container and I loved the results.  Now I have a new way to use them.  Never would have tried that without the beach.

I was so excited about going on vacation, I forgot to show you the giveaway-oops.

The virtual vacation creativity pack includes: 3 pages of 1949 radio diagrams, 3 pages from a 1902 handwritten pharmacist’s ledger, 3 pages from a 1907 French grammar book, 3 pages from a braille book, 3 pages from a 1976 high school yearbook, 12 vintage photos from the 1960’s, a  book to alter (that’s purple!), textured wallpapper, 6 colorful napkins, a collection of fibers, 1 jumbo butterfly, assorted wings (gold dresden, foam, and hand painted paper).

Practically everything I do is geared toward my Yellow Cottage on the Beach . . . I have a ton of those pictures. . . . just waiting for help finding it. The old things in the last picture are so beautiful and heart rending. I enjoy looking at each one of them. Blessings, Janet PPF

I adore the bright yellow and the greens, wonderful pops of color and you are SOOOOOOO organized, wow, I am impressed. Looks like a magical place to create. Do you have fairies and elves who come in at night and organize for you?? xox

Oh what a great idea! Yes, I will join you – absolutely!
How exactly does it work, do we need to think of memories of travels we’ve made? Search for images on the web? Visualisations?

It’s nice to see the work in progress also 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Carolyn June 1, 2012, 9:32 am

It is whatever you want it to be for you- a piece of art you created that was inspired by a vacation, a photo from one of your vacations, a color that makes you think of vacation, a place you wish you could vacation, your favorite part of vacation (like shells from the beach)- it is open to interpretation. It can be a post you already have or a new one. The goal is low stress- vacations are about relaxing and sharing with friends (at least my favorite ones are…).

i really like watching your process video! there were so many moments when i liked what i saw. i notice that frequently, when i watch other artists. that one point someone may decide to stop, & someone else may decide to take their art in another direction. 🙂

  • june in Ireland June 2, 2012, 6:41 am

Hi Carolyn! I just found you and your lovely blog via Denni’s Harvest Moon blog, and I’m delighted and excited by your brilliant idea of a virtual vacation. Brilliant! I live about an hour away from an actual beach, but in my mind and my heart, in an instant I can be lapping up the glorious rays of the sun and listening to the beautiful song of the ocean. I’ve just subbed to your blog, so I’ll have to wait until you return from your own virtual vacation on the 15th, but in the meantime, there’s plenty here in your archives to enjoy. Happy holidaying (‘holiday’ is the same as ‘vacation’ here in Ireland). – June

  • Erika N June 2, 2012, 7:07 am

I LOVE this idea. I think more people should do it-especially in January when we could all use a little beach time.

  • Bleubeard and Elizabeth June 2, 2012, 8:27 am

I don’t live anywhere NEAR a beach and haven’t been to one since 1980, when I didn’t even have a camera. Of course, if the rain and hail hadn’t taken out our primary crop (I live in Kansas), I could have taken photos of waves of grain (wheat).

  • EVA June 2, 2012, 3:03 pm

Wonderful photo and great fish art! I painted a sketchbook my last beach vacation. I’ll have to get my act together and post something before you return…

Have fun!! (A beach sounds fabulous on this cold rainy day…)

  • Julie June 2, 2012, 5:20 pm

great idea, great pages, great fish! And of course the ocean is my absolute favorite place to be!

  • Linda Breshears June 2, 2012, 6:17 pm

Awesome beach photo. There is nothing like a day at the beach when you have a lot on your mind. All of a sudden your troubles seem like the size of a grain of sand rather than the size of a mountain. I sure miss being able to go at a moments notice.

Love your journal page too. Happy PPF

    Linda

  • Paula - Buenos Aires June 2, 2012, 11:03 pm

Nice to see the beach pictures when it is getting colder here. 🙂 I added all my Patagonia posts, both from the coast and the western mountains & lakes.
