“I dunno. I don’t care. I dunno.” These are the answers I was giving myself when I went to my studio today. I have been out of town and swamped with various family & everyday events so I was looking forward to uninterrupted art time. I now had the time and “I dunno” was all I can tell myself.
Well, I don’t accept that answer from my kids so I don’t accept that answer from myself either. I had to start doing something. I decided to make a mess. To just start making something and trust that it will go somewhere.
Grabbed a couple of boxes of markers and started marking. Once I took the first step my muse stopped by- she really likes those who help themselves. The page began to take off on its own. I made “mistakes” and decided to follow them and see where they took me. I had no idea where it was going but I like where it went. Hopefully you are finding some time for yourself to create. Need more inspiration? There is plenty of it over at Creative Everyday! Stop on by if you have a moment. There is also art journal creativity over at Just Journals. She’s been working on a new magazine called Featuring. It is a mixed media magazine.
Fantastic!
Seriously cool!! I love the “beaded” look! =D
Some days you do just have to get in there and play until some creativity and inspiration starts to take over, don’t you? Beautiful indeed.
I love where your mistakes took you! It’s great to just play and have no preconceived notion of what you’re making. Just found your blog and love your work. I had to go out and buy Som. Studio mag to see your article. Couldn’t find the artist tape in M’s so still looking.
I’m impressed with your markers and your painting. So much more focused than what I made. And of course, I had to read back a few days, the ones I had missed. Loved reading that you are making videos. Then enjoyed watching the videos!! I don’t have a camera that makes videos, but if I did, I would probably use Vimeo.
I love how you just switch up from one medium to the next and just play! 🙂
Oh my, that did turn out really neat. Love your video of how you did that, you’ve inspired me to try something similar.
A wonderful *mess*, love the cool colours! Valerie
Hello Carolyn, it’s great to let go and just have fun! You’ve got lovely Spring shades in your water colour piece. Thanks for your comment over at dreamcolour, yes that piece looks like it’s waiting for flowers to burst through. It’s the waiting of Spring that is fun, Spring’s promise to return again.
What a complete and utter mess!
Nice one 😀
What a fun video–I loved watching your materials interact as the beautiful mess developed! And you know, I believe there’s really something to that part about the muse liking those who help themselves…
I love that you add videos to show how you arrived at the end result. Thanks so much for sharing!
Fabulous!
Messes are the BEST! xox Corrine
Hey Carolyn. I’ve been looking around. I came over from Marcia’s Just Journal; too late to submit, but I thought I’d look around. I’m about a week late, but we all get busy. Like the video too. Makes me remember I don’t get out my oil pastels enough. You have an fun site. Blessings Terri http://www.morningdewdrops.typepad.com
