Exploring Open Acrylics on the Gelli Plate

Join me for a Colorful Gelli Print Party!

What is the big deal about open acrylics and the Gelli Plate?  I didn’t know until Mary Beth Shaw introduced me to them.  I can’t believe I have lived this long without them….

The amount of the pigment in Golden combined with being Open acrylics means they stay wet longer and allow me to get some very crisp prints on the Gelli Plate.  Check out this month’s Colorful Gelli Print Party video and see the Open acrylics in action!

Watch Using Open Acrylic Paints on the Round Gelli Plate on YouTube.

I love the open acrylics. They even stay wet in Arizona, and as you noticed, that is saying a lot! Totally worth the money.

  • Terri Daniels May 1, 2014, 11:43 pm

Just wondering if you thought to print off the “wet” side of the stencil when you removed it from the Gelli plate? I would think the paint would be wet enough to get one more print….

  • lynn richards May 2, 2014, 12:40 am

this is great! I can’t wait to start using my Gelli Plate

  • Emie May 2, 2014, 8:49 am

Have you tried this with Golden paints with Open Medium added??? I have both so I might give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for your wonderful vids!!!!!

  • Julie G. May 2, 2014, 9:15 am

Oh my word….love that stencil! The whole time I was watching the video, my mind was in fast forward mode thinking of different projects that I could use it with.

  • Rebecca Buchanan May 2, 2014, 12:47 pm

When you pulled the third supposedly ‘ghost’ print, I said out loud, “Wow!” Still so much vibrant color. Thanks so much for sharing this. Amazing.

  • Jo May 3, 2014, 7:52 am

WOW these prints you got are fantastic but I’m in love with that ghost print! That is my favorite, the colors, the softness toned down… very pretty. Thanks so much for sharing your work! Now since I’m going to be new to all of this, will those cheapy acrylic paints that you can get for like .79c work just as well? I have a ton of them and I’m wondering if you have tried them? Thanks!
    Hugs,
    Jo

Any acrylic paint works with the Gelli plate! Each brand behaves a bit differently and differently in different climates. Dry areas like Arizona causes paints to dry faster and humid areas like the midwest in the summer have a touch more time before it dries out. If you’re new to the Gelli plate I say play with whatever you have on hand!

I still have the gelli plate on my wish list.

Looks like a perfect match – open acrylics and jelli plates. Now I need to go get some opens – just when I thought I could save up for a vacation LOL.
