I am Confessing My Sins Today

carolyn-dube-artistic-sins-2-600I am confessing my sins today.   My studio sins that is as I join in Seth Apter’s Studio Table .  The real studio table, not the cleaned up ready for company kind of studio table.  Be sure to check out all the wonderful real, in use, studio tables that are being shared!

What happens in my studio?  I leave my brushes in water all the time.  For days sometimes.  Hence my love of cheap brushes.

I have wonderful counter space to work on and it is usually piled high with supplies I’ve pulled out to use. No matter how big or small my space, this is what it looks like most days.   Apparently, I love digging things out from the bottom of the pile because that is where what I need always seems to be.  Does that happen to you too?

I'm confessing my artistic sins today!

My sink is not clean and I don’t care.  I have cleaned it before but it just gets so dirty so quickly, I have given up on the white sink.  And I am much happier for it!

I'm confessing my artistic sins today!

There’s paint and spray ink all over the floor because my studio is a splash zone.  And the walls.  None on the ceiling…yet.

I'm confessing my artistic sins today! I'm confessing my artistic sins today!

I feel so much better now that I have come clean that I am a studio slob.  I know you all thought I kept the studio pristine and ready for a white glove inspection…

I feel so much better after seeing your studio. Mine looks similar. I think being creative and being orderly are opposite.

. . . and I thought I was the only one who left my brushes in water for days. Cool peek into your work space.

I have two studios, one for lampwork (glass bead making)’ and one for painting, and they both look like earthquake zones! Lol.

  • Erika N September 18, 2014, 2:32 pm

I feel right at home here. I think I actually work better in a mess than when its clean. Not sure why, but maybe I feel less creatively confined.

  • Susan Tidwell September 18, 2014, 2:34 pm

OMG that’s my space! So glad to know I’m not alone and, yes, what you want is always at the bottom of the pile! How wonderful that you have a sink in your studio. I do have to clean mine because I have to use the guest bathroom sink. Thanks for sharing!

Just posted mine, too, Carolyn…I think you win! 😉 I would kill to have a sink with running water in my studio…lucky you! This little “tour” of other artists’ studios has done my heart good today! Thanks for joining in!

wow, your sink shows a beautiful grungy texture!
I LOVE to see your workspace. No matter how hard I try a half day after emptying mine it is messy and full again. But there is only one thing, that is important: you have to find what you search for and I have a super memory for what I put where 🙂

  • rivergardenstudio September 18, 2014, 5:09 pm

Oh, how lovely. I wish I had a sink like this!!!

I know you are messy and colorful always. I like that sink too. You could clean that sucker every 10 minutes and you would do nothing else. Let it be another colorful creation. xox

aaaccckkkk, days on end?? lol Poor brushes! lol I’d still love to get creative with you, I’ll just have to clean your brushes for you while I’m there! 🙂

  • Jean Marmo September 18, 2014, 9:52 pm

Looks like the studio of a creative genius! I use the second floor bathroom sink and really need to do a better job of cleaning it out. I too tend to leave brushes sit.

  • William Charlebois September 18, 2014, 10:37 pm

It’s you! I’d recognize that colorful header anywhere! I love your mess. Now I don’t feel quite so bad.

  • cHim Prints September 18, 2014, 11:34 pm

Yikes! “White gloves” and “studio” in the same sentence? The look into your studio makes me feel more comfortable with my own … um … mess.

  • Bleubeard and Elizabeth September 19, 2014, 12:38 am

Wow, you really DO have a studio that is a splash zone. Your walls look like mine, but mine were planned! I somehow feel a bit too clean for this blog hop (grin).

  • Rachél Payne - Creativity Tribe September 19, 2014, 12:58 am

Haha! I was looking through your post and said to myself….She’s messy, and I love it! Then I saw you called yourself a Studio Slob. You go!!!!

  • Ann Isik September 19, 2014, 10:10 am

Hi Fellow Studio Slob Carolyn (familiar face). Actually, I can hear your voice so must have watched a good few of your videos! Thanks for sharing your dirty secrets. I have paintbrushes standing in water and all sorts of strange liquids too.

  • Lor September 19, 2014, 1:41 pm

Your photos are still bright and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

  • Cheryl September 19, 2014, 10:15 pm

Nice to know there are other “studio slobs” out there. My studio is half of our guest bedroom and I have lots of supplies. Once I’m engrossed in a project, there’s a huge mess until I’m done. The only difference is that I have to use the bathroom sink, so there’s no choice but to keep it clean. I do wish I had more space though, as my mess often encroaches on my work space, which can ruin a project if I’m not careful…and it can get frustrating looking for things.

  • Kara September 20, 2014, 6:40 am

My space looks the same, and I make effort to tidy it up but within minutes it’s a mess again! That’s why I want the space, so I didn’t need to clean it up constantly, that why I have a door to shut!!!! 🙂

    Hi Carolyn,

I love all the color showing in your studio pics! I’m jealous of your sink even if it is messy – that’s one thing I’d LOVE to have in mine.
