Teenager’s Room as Art?

As I wished my darling teenage daughter goodnight, I stepped into the PIT.  Her room has clothes strewn all over the floor.  I think they actually cover the entire floor.  Not sure if they are clean or dirty, just on the floor.  Dresser drawers half open.  Clothes hanging out of the drawers that are open.  Apparently, the look on my face as I navigated my way through her room gave away my feelings.  Her response?

“I don’t need to clean my room, Mom. It’s a work of art. If Jackson
Pollock’s paint splatters can be considered art, so can my messy room.
I mean, it’s just like what he did, but in sculpture form. Don’t blame
me, I’m just doing what you do! How can I do art every day if you
expect my room to be clean and boring every day? Don’t you want me to
express myself?”

Here’s a photo of my mess with lots of works in progress…so I guess I can’t be too judgmental about hers…At least I close my drawers…

haha….your post made me laugh! I’m always hesitant to walk into my daughter’s room because I’m afraid I won’t find my way back out! Okay….new perspective….work of art! 🙂 I LOVE your studio space!

A messy place is a happy place, unless you really can’t stand the ‘strewn’ quality of it all:)

I have a serious case of studio envy right now… your room is inspiring and gorgeous… I want all those draws and that great big table in the middle… as to the daughter’s room… I am in the habit of turning my head when I pass Phantom’s room… just don’t want to know… as long as she is presentable when she leaves the house I figure I am on a winner… got to love teeenagers!!!

I was a teenage room artist myself, and my hat’s off to your daughter for her most creative response. Wish I’d thought of it 🙂

    Clever girl. 😉
    But your mess is contained–LOL!
I am having a severe case of studio envy right now. 🙂

You have a GREAT and well-organized studio. This is definitely a mess in my book! Right now EVERY surface in my studio looks like this and I have about 7 areas.

You have a beautiful creative space and a very intelligent daughter!

Carolyn – what a wonderful art space and soooo tidy, you may not think so, but believe me it is tidy. My room and my life is like your daughter’s room, one big clutter! At least now I can say it’s a work of art 😉
    Big love
    AJ

What a great workspace! Apart from the work top, everything else is perfectly neat and tidy….quite normal.

My son’s room sounds just like your daughter’s room….it’s seriously like making my way through an obstacle course and he’s 23! lol

Oh my! Your space is fabulous – so many drawers and shelves, I’m jealous!! So much beauty, I don’t even see the mess!

I had thought about writing O is for organization – about my struggle to create my office into a studio – and the absolute pleasure I get from the open shelves I added which allow me to put my hands on something when I want it, and not after I have emptied the closets and drawers to find it. Your studio is BEEEEUUUUTIFUL. Lucky you
