I had an odd sized scrap of paper that I just couldn’t throw away – so I glued it to an old art journal page that just never went anywhere.  I had the dress on the page from who knows when.  Suddenly, this scrap brought it to life for me.  My tutorial on making the paper the scrap came from can be found here.

The page was just too bright for me, so a layer of gesso toned it down. Next I started looking through my stash for what to add.

I’ve been in love with watercolor pencils lately as a shading/shadowing element.  The first color I used wasn’t right, so I just did a second color on top of it – the blending of the 2 gave me what I was after.  What started as a “mistake” ended up being just what it needed.

The Summer of Color focused on orange this week and now orange is one of my good friends.  I hadn’t spent much time with this friend for a very long while so I guess I am making up for it now…Creative Every Day has the theme of red for August and I just knew I was meant to use more reds and yellows to make orange…

Over at Twinkle Twinkle there is a celebration of color, The Summer of Color.  This week’s color is orange. There are links to so many great pieces of orange art there!  This really pushed me because this is a color I have not used much in many months.

I didn’t have any orange paint with me on vacation, so I made some using red and yellow.  There was an added bonus – I had so many little shades of orange.  I think I may mix more of my colors just so I can have the color variations!

I started with the white gelato cirlces, added yellow, and finished with black gelato.  I brushed the black with a wet paintbrush to soften it.   I really liked how the yellow looked on the white so I went back and added to the white so the yellow would pop more.  Then the jouranling was added.
