Rubber Stamping with Paint Workshop with Carolyn Dube

I’m teaching 3 mixed media workshops at Stampaway, and couldn’t be happier about it.  Why? The people I meet there are fantastic!  Second, the creative energy and excitement makes my soul happy! (and I always manage to do a bit of shopping there too!)

On Wednesday, August 5th, it’s Stamping with Paint.  Ever wondered how to use paint with rubber stamps?  I’ll share all I know about getting a clear image even with a detailed stamp, how to create an artsy watercolor look with paint, using multiple colors with ease on one stamp, and most importantly how to make clean up a snap!  Registration info here.

Stencil Discovery is on Friday, August 7th.  Have you seen stencils but aren’t sure how to use them or what they can do?  Then this workshop is for you!  Come and play with my stash of StencilGirl stencils as I guide you through techniques from building backgrounds, adding layers, and using a stencil for a focal image!  I’ll share with you how to get a crisp image and how to get an artsy loose image from the same stencil. Registration info here.

In Transform Your Tape Live on Friday, August 7th, 2015 we’ll be transforming plain tape into pieces of art by stamping, stenciling, collaging images and playing with color.  I’ll share my no fail tips and tricks as you make yards and yards of your own tape in this fast paced workshop. You’ll go home with your own roll (60 yards) of blank tape, a teflon mat and color PDF so you can keep on playing!  Registration info here.

Spray painting a trash can with chalk paint and stencils with Carolyn Dube

“You’d be so good at vandalism Mom!”  Hmm…maybe I need to rethink the example I am setting for my children….nah!  Everyone should grab a can of spray paints and let loose occasionally!  Nothing seems to be safe here from the paint lately at our house. The neighbors haven’t rioted yet with all the color.  As a bonus, when the wind blows the trash cans down the street everyone now knows who they belong too.

Watch Spray painting with stencil on a curbside trash can! on YouTube.

Spray painting a trash can with chalk paint and stencils with Carolyn DubeThe Chalk Spray Paints are at Amazon and at Dick Blick.  These aren’t traditional spray paints, they are temporary chalk ones.  This may take quite a while to wear off since it only goes outside once a week….I put it on a concrete wall a couple of months ago and it is still bright and vibrant!

What stencils did I use? More like which did I not…here are just some of the ones I used.  All can be found at StencilGirl.

Who did that 2nd can? My daughter….so proud that I’ve infected her…I mean encouraged her creativity!

Carolyn-dube-video-shoot-8

It’s a wrap!  All 4 videos have been shot and now are in the capable hands of Northlight!  One of the most exciting things was they had a clapper!   I looked around for the director’s chair and the beret but they were no where to be found.  Turns out it isn’t the 1940’s anymore.

I discovered a new use for an iron…it can be used to get wrinkles out of clothes.  Who knew!  I usually just use it to for things like embossing powders and beeswax…

The scariest, most intimidating person at the entire shoot was Smiling Bob!  Of course the anxiety may have been the camera right behind him.  Nope…it was that mustache!

OOPS!  I still haven’t learned to put the cap on a bottle…there will be a blooper reel coming. You’d think I’d learned…but no….and then there was the paint on the face…and the uncontrollable laughter right before we started filming…

What could make me laugh so hard?  A blindfolded producer, Amy, who was such an incredible sport!Carolyn-dube-video-shoot-13The greatest treat of the whole journey was getting to know such a fantastic crew! Thanks Amy, Christine, Sam, and Aaron for everything!
