Ever see an art supply and have no idea how you are going to use it but you know you just have to own it? Sometimes it’s a good thing to follow impulses. That impulse is what led me outdoors to play…
I had to find a giant canvas to go with these giant 2″ paint brushes but there isn’t room indoors to work on this kind of scale. The concrete wall outside my studio was the perfect size but I needed something temporary, so I found giant 32oz. bottles of washable tempera paints for my play.
You might see bits of stencils under it. That’s because I used temporary spray paints last year that held up extremely well to the elements since it is a vertical surface. Check out the blog post on it here.
Along the way…I noticed a few silly creatures making an appearance in the paint…like the duck-topus, a 7 legged octopus with the head of duck.
Painting on rough concrete is a different experience. All that texture makes the brushes and paint behave differently than in an art journal. Not a shocker since outdoor cement isn’t as smooth as paper.
The splattering and flinging of paint on this scale is a blast but I did have to be careful not to decorate the side of the house lol. Now, I am even more excited for the next reasonably warm day to head out and add more color to the wall!
P.S. When it says it is washable…the label is right. The first thunderstorm after I painted this completely washed it all away. Thanks Mother Nature for getting it all cleaned up and ready to paint again!
Ever stumble across an art supply that was made for kids but you just had to try it? That’s what happened to me. Loved these paint sticks when I found them, used them a few times, and then forgot all about them.
The embarrassing thing is they were actually on a shelf where I saw them every day but didn’t really see them. But thanks to this month’s Let’s Play theme, I am redeeming myself and using these with some much older rubber stamps!
New to Let’s Play? It’s all about how to let go and embrace the fun of artful play. Each Tuesday, there’s a new link party where I’m sharing my play and you can link up to share your play. And yes, it can be any creative play! Plus there’s a monthly $50 gift certificate giveaway!
These are a kids supply…and they make me happy. Why? Because of the creamy texture and that when they dry they are dry and don’t smudge or smear easily. Now, if you hit them with a bunch of water they do smear since it is tempera paint…

It’s Super Bowl Sunday and that means art play with 2 sold out workshops today at Simply Said Rubber Stamps. With all the excitement…my hands were moving faster than my aging phone so sadly many photos were blurry…but I did get a few!
A morning full of Gelli printing® and StencilGirl stencils….these ladies were so much fun and made amazing prints. The prints were overflowing and filling all the open spaces. Even the clean up and brayer pages were eye candy!
It was an afternoon of Sneaky Art Journaling. These playful ladies built up layers of rainbow fun on their pages. It was truly amazing watching the layers develop as they explored heavy body paints and glazing medium.
This snippet of a page…Life is Good…summed up a happy day! Thanks Joan for hosting with a tasty Super Bowl spread and being the official group photo taker! And thank you to everyone for sharing your Sunday with me!
