I had to buy this 12×12 stencil by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer the moment I saw it! Didn’t know what I was going to do with it until I was purging my home of stuff.  I ran across a bunch of sequin things and it struck me – sequin hair!  After I had the face in place I needed to make the eyes and mouth pop a bit – so my almost dry bottle of modeling paste came off the shelf.  That didn’t give me the look I expected so I had to try something else.  A bit of bright pearl paint and gemstone eyes created the look I had in mind when I started.

I have been purging stuff from my home to make room for my life.  It is freeing!  I found the box of audio cassettes (it’s an ancient form of recording for those young people) that had recordings of family members.  Relatives that are no longer with us.  Children who are way too old to be cute singing “I’m a Little Teapot”.  The sounds of a young family sharing a story.  These sounds take me back in time and bring such joy.

These recordings inspired my art journal page and my take on Michelle Ward’s crusade #55.  Here are some of my pages I made – of course I was so wrapped up in my art journal page I forgot to take a photo of the background I used before I used it.

While in Phoenix for Creative Escape I was given a quick tour of some great scrapbook stores one evening.  Mystic Paper was hands down my favorite.  Do you ever just walk into a store and feel like you are home?  That was Mystic Paper for me!  I was like a kid in a candy store picking out treasures .  There was a vintage  tote made from Shawn Cassidy album covers and I remember PLAYING that record.   Several of us in the store could actually still remember the words to the songs.  Even if our bodies aren’t as young, our minds are still sharp… I look forward to dropping by next time I’m in Phoenix- the people there were extremely friendly and creative!
