I needed this reminder today.  It is so easy to get lost in my head and lose perspective.  Thanks to Art Every Day Month I found the message I needed today!

As I wished my darling teenage daughter goodnight, I stepped into the PIT.  Her room has clothes strewn all over the floor.  I think they actually cover the entire floor.  Not sure if they are clean or dirty, just on the floor.  Dresser drawers half open.  Clothes hanging out of the drawers that are open.  Apparently, the look on my face as I navigated my way through her room gave away my feelings.  Her response?

“I don’t need to clean my room, Mom. It’s a work of art. If Jackson
Pollock’s paint splatters can be considered art, so can my messy room.
I mean, it’s just like what he did, but in sculpture form. Don’t blame
me, I’m just doing what you do! How can I do art every day if you
expect my room to be clean and boring every day? Don’t you want me to
express myself?”

Here’s a photo of my mess with lots of works in progress…so I guess I can’t be too judgmental about hers…At least I close my drawers…

I love fibers.  I really love fibers, especially this one. No idea how you’d knit or crochet with it (or any fiber for that matter).  I put a layer of gesso down on a book page & set the fiber in it.  Then a gentle brush of gesso on top (really I was just using my paint brush to push it down well).  A bit of water color and it is ready for journaling.

Confession time:  I don’t journal regularly.  I make the pages and give them as gifts.  I love journals, but the writing part I don’t do as much.  So, I dove in and journaled a few things that happened recently.  One of those things was when I had a playlist by my daughter’s favorite band, Panic and the Disco.  When she heard it she came running.  Later, when she was checking out photos on my camera she saw the page with Panic at the Disco in bold letters.  She came running to see the actual page in my journal.  Now I know how to get her attention- Panic at the Disco!  Linking up with Art Every Day Month and Just Journals.
