We’re a family who loves music.  Absolutely no discernible  musical talent but what we lack in talent we make up for in enthusiasm.  Imagine 4 tone deaf people with one mom who can’t keep a beat or remember many of the words singing at the top of their lungs.  Sorry for such a painful image- that’s why we tend to sing only at home or in the car.  As off key as we are – it fills my soul with joy when we sing together- especially since the kids since songs from the ancient 80’s.  This journal page was the result of the residual feelings from a song or two.

I am in love with the floral stencil from Julie Balzer and Crafters Workshop.  It is so free and loose.  Do you ever find that you find something that isn’t what you’d usually buy but once you start using it you wonder how you lived without it?

It is hard for me to believe it has been 1 year since my first post.  I remember all the nervousness that went into a blog post in the beginning.   The scrapbooker in me decided to get my blog printed as a book (a very long book it turned out).   I used Blog 2 Print and it wasn’t too hard.  It take a while for it all to process, but that might be because it was 275 pages long.  I hadn’t realized I had written over 180 blog posts.

Well, after 1 year, I highly recommend blogging to everyone.  Here’s why:

1.  The people I have met through my blog are amazing, supportive, and full of encouragement.   One unexpected benefit is the diversity of artists I have gotten to know and the inspiration they have shared!

2.  Blogging has pushed me to explore my style and then articulate it in posts.  It is one thing to think it but another to write it.  I wasn’t very good at it in the beginning because I had just started.  The best way to get better at something is to practice it.  Blogging often has helped me improve.

3.  It keeps me creating.  There are busy days that make it hard to get time in my studio, but the blog keeps me gently  accountable. I never expected the blog to do this for me but I am grateful for the nudges.

Well, I’m off to visit great blogs at Creative Every Day- stop on by if you have a moment!

Start

Whenever I paint I try to have another paper or canvas or something to wipe the excess and leftover paint from my main project.  I really liked the wispy circles and soft colors.  I recently heard an artist talk about not following in love with a background because so much gets covered up.  This one really changed.

Completely different direction.  I wasn’t sure if I liked it at all at this stage.

I brought back the circles and started to like it again.  But I was stuck with where to go from here.

My word for 2012 came to my rescue (or the giant letters I am altering came to my rescue).  This word reminds me to just start- not try to plan it all out, make it perfect- just start.  So, that is what I did since I was stuck as to where to go next.

I traced the letters and put white paint to push the background to the background.

Red gelato around the letters to make them pop out a bit and purple watercolors around it.

I consider this a work in progress.  It doesn’t feel finished yet and I am not sure why.   What do you do when this happens to you?
