Stencil Play Time!

Playing with Crafters Workshop Stencils

My box of stencils arrived!!!  Did I mention I am jumping up and down with pure joy !!!!!!  I had no goal when I started this background paper other than to play, play, and play some more!  No rules, no restrictions, no pressure- just play.

Here are all the stencils I used on this paper.  Can you find all these stencils in this background paper? As I looked at it I felt like it was a game of Where’s Waldo. Is he still around or am I showing my age?

I love how a stencil changes when you only use a portion of it (like when I did only half of one from the vine) or just stenciled along the lines of the honeycomb stencil or when the layers start to interact and play together!

I had planned on cutting this up and making ATC’s or tags or die cutting it or as an art journal background  but I just can’t bear to cut it now…but I will find the strength because that gives me an excuse to make another one!  What do you think I should make with it?

I love what you’ve done & honestly I am learning some great tips from you!! I so very much want the large gelli plate – since I also want some catalyst tools but can’t get both so while shopping pre-nor’easter – I picked up a spoon, 2 spatulas &I a whisk each $4.00 — made of silicone – I cut ridges-circles-unusual edges to use on my new gelli plate!!! Now for stencils….hmmm

  • Connie B February 8, 2013, 9:58 pm

Well, I just spent $20 on stencils! I am becoming addicted to gelli printmaking – those stencils will be great with that.
So looking forward to your course! Love the play you had with your new stencils.

    • Carolyn February 9, 2013, 9:35 am

I used only acrylic paints on this one. It is a wonderful addiction for me!

  • deniz feneri/ lighthouse February 9, 2013, 5:14 am

  • Karen at I am Rushmore February 9, 2013, 4:05 pm

It’s fabulous, and I’d have a hard time cutting it up too. (but if I did decide to cut, mine would turn into postcards. just about everything I touch ends up as a postcard!)

  • Judy Shea February 9, 2013, 4:08 pm

I don’t know where the hell Waldo is, but good lord.. this is a beautiful page. I love every single thing about it. Stencils are in my blood as I’m sure they are for you since you have every single one on the market. Envy love.

  • Judy Shea February 9, 2013, 4:11 pm

p.s. I don’t know if I would cut this up for something, but certainly a journal cover or make it into a journal book with signatures sewn in. Hang it in your studio for a while. If you love it every time you walk by.. it’s a keeper. Oh.. .bookmarks too. Just sayin… and you better stop all that jumping up and down or you’ll undo all the massages you had this week.

  • Judy Shea February 9, 2013, 4:12 pm

p.s… p.s… me again… you should try this on a black background.. Ok, I’m really done now.

  • Kay Wallace February 9, 2013, 4:41 pm

I have become so frustrated lately using spray inks with my stencils! I never get the crisp images (especially when “shadowing”) like others seem to. I am back to using paints as I love what you have accomplished here with stencils and paint! So looking forward to the start of “Use Your Words” on Monday!!

  • Barbara Ford February 9, 2013, 5:17 pm

I also am so frustrated with the whole spray ink thing. I fell in love with acrylic paints as soon as I started playing with art journals, less than a year ago. I’m excited about the Gelli Plate because it lets me use the paints. I am so going to get rid of my spray inks and my Pan Pastels. Not my style. Love your vibrant colors here.

  • Corrine February 9, 2013, 5:40 pm

That’s a big load of stencils, love th eye chart and the vine, hmmm might need to go stencil shopping again. Color love everywhere, so great. Can’t wait to play with some words on MOnday…..xox

    Bright and gorgeous!

  • sue schultheis February 9, 2013, 10:15 pm

Has anyone suggested seeing Christy Tomlinson’s blog. She had a similar canvas , full of color and made some designs with tape (v’s) and painted the rest white. You have to see it because I dont think I am explaining it correctly. The taping and painting makes the colors stand out even more! I cant wait to create mine. Also, on Rhonda P’s blog a while back she made a piece like you with all the stencils she had. I made one like yours and used it as the cover of the book i keep my stencils in. Are you sorry you asked??LOL
love the colors and the stencils!!! see you tomorrow for Just One Word. very excited!

Sounds like something I will really enjoy. So happy I saw this at MIM. Have fun playing with more of your stencils.

I love this projects. So colorful. It looks as you had so much fun creating it. I must admit I never used stencil. But I might just give it a try someday. Becouse I have few ideas on how to use it for my projects 🙂

Due to my illness I’m a little behind on my crafting and visiting this week. But anyway, here am I, stopping by from MIM. My project this week is 241.

    Thanks for inspiration.
