Windows and Doors Stencil Test Drive

Art journal page using Jessica Sporn's Windows and Doors stencil by Carolyn DubeJessica Sporn’s  Windows and Doors stencil spoke to me the moment I saw it. I love love love doors and windows- my kids tease me about how I get excited about the shapes of  doors and windows on vacation.  Just now I even spotted a mysterious friend in the center window (actually it is just where the paint peeled off the stencil but I am watching Ghost Hunters as I type this)…

I’m not the only one in love with this stencil.   Pop over and check out what the other artists have made with this stencil for this Stencil Test Drive!

Maria McGuire

Corrine Gillman

Judy Shea

and of course, the one who designed this great stencil, Jessica Sporn!

This is one of my favorite places to clean off my brayer when I am Gelli printing, an old vintage ledger.

Stenciled on just the windows and the repeating pattern felt good.  Does that ever happen to you when you create- does it ever just feel good all the way down to your toes?  I debated leaving it at this stage because I just loved looking at it.  But eventually, I persuaded myself to add a quote.

The quote was printed on an ink jet printer.  Since the ink will run if wet mediums are used, I turned to my handy PanPastels.  Once again, PanPastels delivered rich bright colors without smearing my cheap ink jet printer ink!

Math 🙂 I love how you mimicked the brayer colors with the PanPastels. I also love how the stenciling just flows on top of each color. GREAT quote!

PPS – having just finished your video – I love the “wonky” placement of the quote against the precise placement of the windows. You are brilliant!

SwooN!!!! I do love a good stencil – bright colors and great blog post Carolyn! thanks for sharing!

  • Marji March 29, 2013, 11:54 am

Nicely done, Carolyn. The colors are wonderful and I love that old ledger. Windows and doors hold such mystery – looking inside, the face they present to others. I think the stencil holds so much creativity as to what stories it can tell through your beautiful interpretation.

That is such a fabulous stencil – love the colors you used and I saw your ghost in the window and thought it was “on purpose”. I am using my PanPastels more and more – they come in very handy when you want fabulous color without a wet medium. HPPF

Cool stencils! I see the ghost! I used to love to watch Ghost Hunters because they were so funny. Arguing with each other and getting excited over dust motes. Some of the locations had interesting history.

  • JKW April 2, 2013, 9:58 am

The color effect with the windows reminds me of a sunrise or sunset. Use of colors provides the shading. Good work. Blessings, Janet PPF
